01/25/20: After I paid for 1 year, I asked for my receipt and I was told it will be emailed. The agreement was not made available to read until I printed it out which is when I found that I was overcharged.
I called the salesperson the same day about the overcharge and I spoke to him again at the gym the following day. I was told he would handle it on Monday. I called again Friday and Saturday and left messages with customer service at the front counter.
Update 02/02/20: I called Sunday and spoke to a manager (Kevin), who was responsive and is fixing the error and extending the enrollment discount for a trainer. He was very apologetic and said he will look into why this happened. He was authentic in wanting to resolve this issue.
I was impressed with the personal trainer (Marcus) during my initial evaluation. I am looking forward to working with him.
I will update my review after I have more interaction with the gym. I am hoping to have a much better experience going forward.
02/12/20 update review: The trainers and instructors are knowledgeable, friendly and very welcoming. This is more than a gym. I am impressed with all the staff that I have met, except for the sales staff. The company’s policy to charge the customer MORE if you pay the full amount upfront, is unreasonable. Most companies would give a discount to the customers that pays up front. I have Never heard of a company charging more if the customer does not want to pay monthly, but that is what happened.
The assistant manager credit my account when I signed up for a personal trainer. The personal trainer is great and I’m very glad that I signed up for this service. The assistant manager (Ryan) was very pleasant, caring, honest and has integrity. Ryan was upfront, clearly explained everything when he signed me up for a physical trainer and he made sure I had copies of all documentation.
The Sterling Heights location is the best gym I have ever joined. The only problem is the billing, which was not a good experience and was almost a deal breaker.
If the owner reads this review, change your billing policy. Customers should always get a legible receipt when they sign up and don’t over charge customers that pay the full amount upfront. Why would you penalize...
Read moreWas kinda between 3 and 4 stars on this place but leaned towards 4 stars. Overall, I like this gym a lot and it seems to be one of the best in the area. If you're looking for a step up from Planet Fitness or whatever, this is the place to go. I do have some annoyances for sure though.
Pros: The gym area is clean. Machines are all new and nicely maintained. The members of this gym are all fit, clean, nice, and seem to follow good gym etiquette. Tons of different workout options. This place does seem to be more cardio/ HIIT training focused, but there are options for lifting as well. Very nice staff Good protein shakes Cool options for different classes and personal training Broken down equipment seems to get fixed pretty quick at least compared to other gyms I've been to For $25 per month, it's not a bad price! It FEELS like I'm getting a good deal for what I pay for here. Cool features like the theater, yoga room, women's only area, and private training room make the place feel fun and inviting. Good options for snacks and energy drinks at the counter.
Cons: No paper towels. They only offer small sanitizing wipes to wipe down equipment and there's no paper towels in the bathrooms, just air dryers. This is more annoying than it sounds. The bathroom feels a little dirty sometimes. A lot of people seem to find the contract pretty predatory. Not really their fault, but it is literally impossible to go to this gym after 5 pm on weekdays. There is a 3 person wait on every machine, cable, barbell, and dumbbell in the gym in the afternoons. It's insane. The hours at this gym are inconvenient sometimes. Limited late late-night options, and the gym closes early on weekends. It looks big, but this gym is actually kind of small. They only have 2 smith machines. Aside from the training station in the middle, there's basically only one, maybe two options for every machine in the gym. If it's busy and there's a workout you want to do, odds are it's taken every time. Most of the space is taken up by treadmills, a giant turf field, and a private...
Read moreREAD THIS BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR THIS GYM. Horrible horrible gym. Once I signed up they offered me a free fitness assessment. Once I finished the fitness assessment, Preston the manager kept trying to convince me to get a personal trainer. After saying no multiple times due to financial reasons he wouldn’t take no for an answer. He kept trying to offer me discounts and trying to convince me the best he can. After agreeing to get the trainer for a month he told me it was a 2 month minimum. I then denied it again and the manager just kept showing me things to convince me. I then agreed to it under peer pressure. 2 weeks before the second month was over. I tried to cancel the personal trainer membership. Preston the manager then told me I would still get charged for another month because I didn’t cancel within 30 days. I was frustrated about that situation so I asked to speak with James which is the general manager or owner of the gym, not sure which one. I spoke with him on March 1 in person at the gym about the situation and he said he would take care of it to make sure they don’t charge me for the upcoming month. He also said he would get back to me the same day. Never got a call from him or any type of response. I call back today which is March 17 and James said he couldn’t do anything about it. I heard many stories about this gym and canceling memberships and I didn’t believe it until it happened to me. I highly recommend to stay away...
