Being born and raised in Pittsburgh, I would always go to Sunseri's/Penn Mac if I wanted truly authentic Italian meats, cheeses, spices, etc. Having been a musician for almost 40 years, as well as having worked for some of the more prominent Italian restauranteur's (Cibrone, Cerminara, Pasqurelli back in the day) in that region combined with being taught by first and second generation Italians from Calabria, Abruzzi, and Roma, I never even thought there was anywhere to go to shop for Italian grocery but the strip district at Penn Ave in the 'Burgh, thus wherever I lived, I always waited to go to the strip. When I got married again, I moved to the East Liverpool/Wellsville Ohio area and had a hard time finding a place to find good authentic Italian cusine in an area with a significant Italian population, so I kept trekking into Pittsburgh until my wife told me about Federico's one day while going to Lowe's. I stopped in and was very pleasantly surprised at the familiar aromas eminating throughout the store, and the variety and selection of authentic and imported pastas, meats, cheeses, PLUS their outstanding deli in a small Italian grocery. Needless to say that after that, I didn't make any "special trips" back to Pittsburgh to get my Italian on. Like the strip in Pittsburgh, I could go into Federico's with a paycheck and walk out with no money left because of their quality, selection, and the antipasto, olives, pasta salads, and other delicioso cibi preparato fantastico. Try going into a Giant Eagle deli and finding soppressato, mortadella, several styles and brands of cappicola, fresh made mozzarella balls in milk, Baccala, and so on . This place you must visit! Living in Charlotte now, it took a long time for me to find a good authentic Italian restaurant (that a Nordstrom's chef here thanked me for turning him on to), but I haven't strayed far enough yet to fill that hole inside my soul that is Sunseri's or Federico's...

The employees were The BEST! The deli is AWESOME!!! My reason for my visit was to get the Italian sub. I have never had a sub the size of a big loaf of bread! And it’s the best bread I’ve ever had! I almost got two and so glad I didn’t. My fiancé, myself & my son ate one sub!!!! And the price....wow!! Steubenville really has some great places for good food! This is my new...
Read moreI come here twice a month when I'm in town and the staff is usually friendly. However, today the staff were SO RUDE AMD DISRESPECTFUL that I will NEVER be back. My husband ordered a sub sandwich and the older dark haired lady literally yelled at him when he said he didn't call ahead of time. Keep in mind, he did call, repeatedly and the line was either busy or never answered. We waited around for about 20 minutes and finally decided to leave when we overheard her calling him names...
