This is an absolutely stunning space, created by people who had the vision, resources and energy to turn an otherwise forgotten downtown storefront into an environment that literally took our breath away the first time we walked in. Yes, it is THAT beautiful - and it would receive (and deserve) oohs and aahs if it was located in NYC, London, or Paris rather than sitting smack dab on Main Street in Stevens Point, Wisconsin!
The space is divided into a terrific bookstore with a thoughtfully curated inventory, a cocktail lounge that's open during evening hours (we'll definitely be coming back for a visit), and a beautiful patio space that turns what was probably a non-descript parking area into a genuine destination for relaxation.
The interior decor is remarkable for its beauty and attention to detail. The lighting is exquisite and perfect for a cozy bookstore. The bookshelves aren't the run-of-the-mill laminate and particle board junk you'd find at a big box store. Instead, Sojourn Booksellers opted for custom cabinetry that would not be out of place in the library of a multi-million-dollar home. All of the details - from the signage to the fixtures in the restroom - are brilliantly integrated to create a cohesive space in which one could immerse one's self for hours and hours - and the smile would never leave your face.
I can't say enough good things about this place. It was a surprise - no...a shock - to open the door and find such a beautiful, welcoming, and architecturally rich environment. Five stars seems about five stars too few for this review. Come and see...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAmazing little bookshop with a really good atmosphere. The owner (I believe she was the owner atleast) was very kind and made sure to put me first over business which was really cool to see. I prefer this shop over their neighbor mostly cause of the aesthetic and also their relatively cheap prices! Most shops I go to new books cost $10-$15 (Smaller books mind you), but I found two Jane Austen books that my gf has wanted for a total of only $16! Pretty sweet I think. A beautiful place to come and browse or even read in their chairs (As long as you buy something I doubt they would mind). Will be bringing my girlfriend back so she can ooo and aww...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI rarely leave reviews, but this bookstore is truly worth the visit. Cozy, classy, and personal, I enjoyed their selection of classics, as well as new publications. It was such a good mix of new and old, and the overall aesthetic of the store is simply gorgeous. The books are also reasonably priced, so now i dont have to go to Wausua to buy books for myself and as gifts. Truly an old-world...
