I am sick and tired of paying for substandard bags that rip open before you get them in your house. Two weeks ago the handles ripped off the bags and many of my purchases were ruined. Big Y did replace them free of charge, however, that’s not the point. Today I shopped there again and as I was bringing in my groceries (not by the handles), the bag ripped open as you can see in the attached photograph, and fell onto my driveway. Big Y has an obligation to address and correct this problem.

American owned Big Y presents good value, a great variety of prepared meals and a friendly and inclusive staff. Prices are a little high due to the area.

We bought some fresh lobster and the associates, in the seafood department, were very nice and helpful. And our cashier, Sheila was very friendly.

The Mystic Big Y has been my local grocery store since I moved to the area a year ago from West Hartford. I really love the Mystic Big Y (note: I have a separate and equally glowing review for the pharmacy at this location). It is a little smaller than some of their other locations, but the Mystic Big Y is always very clean and well-stocked. I also have a deep love for the bakery section, the store made bagels are always fresh, and paczki season is amazing. They also never seem to run out of shopping carts, which is something that drives me nuts at other supermarkets.

I have to give a special shout out to Dakota at the deli counter and Holden in the pizza shop who always help me with a smile even though I typically do my shopping late at night (Holden makes a really good pizza - thanks, buddy!). Maddie and Cher in the front end/cashier dept, are always friendly, helpful, and super...

What is the point of having a recycling room if you aren't allowed to recycle all your bottles. I understand about social distancing and only 1 person in bottle room at a time, and of course, being polite and not monopolizing the room. I came on a Wednesday at 1 pm and recycled all my bottles, keeping an eye on the door, ready to give the room up immediately after reaching $7.50. A very nice lady came in just as I was finishing up and I took my tickets and left. Only to be told at the service desk that they would only cash out one ticket for $7.50. I explained that no one else had wanted the room so I kept recycling my bottles, but even after calling the mgr, he wouldn't cash all my tickets. I'm supposed to make another trip here just to cash in the other ones I have?? I guess I'll go to the Stop and Shop and spend my money there from now on. So ridiculous and...

surprisingly solid grocer. much broader selection of produce and natural foods (and everything) than i anticipated. there's a palpable care for quality and variety and hygiene.

if you're on a Standard American Diet, they have everything you need. full service grocer. And if you're on a healthier diet, they don't have it all but they have a lot. could more than get by.

classic examples: they had Pumfu (next level stuff for soy-free vegetarians) --not every flavor, but they have pumfu.

they didn't have every conceivable shelf-stable non-dairy milk, but i saw at least 5.

possibly more gluten-free cracker choices than my regular natural foods coop grocer

not quite as much organic as conventional/chemistry for the assorted...
