My husband and I spent the day today driving through Lancaster shopping at antique stores. At several locations, we encountered signs that stated "no large bags or backpacks allowed". I understand this reasoning. Shoplifting is an unfortunate reality for these merchants. In each of the previous locations we visited today, none of the merchants took issue with the small clutch bag I was holding.
However, this store has multiple boards out front displaying "NO PURSES ALLOWED" in large black letters. Perhaps I was naive in assuming that this wouId not apply to me, but I went in carrying my small clutch bag and was immediately greeted with a "YOU CAN"T COME IN HERE WITH THAT PURSE! YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO LEAVE IT IN YOUR CAR". So much for a "Hello".
Let me briefly review the contents and size of my purse - an iPhone, my license, one credit card, and a large quantity of cash. (Under normal circumstances, I would NEVER carry that much cash, but my husband and I were hoping to purchase several small tables from one location and pay cash. Double discount for buying multiple items with cash!) That is all that could fit in my clutch purse because it is TINY!
I understand not wanting people to steal from you, but you have to use common sense. Just as I did when I told the woman "no" and left immediately. I didn't have pockets in my pants (and even if I did I wouldn't put that much money in my pocket...I can just envision it falling out now) NOR would I leave cash and an iPhone unattended in my car.
We left that store and went less than one mile up the road to another antique store. The dealer was friendly We bought multiple tables (for a cash discount!) and it was all the sweeter for knowing that the people at Country Loft didn't get...

I don't know what to say all the stores in this area are all the same you can sit here all day I spent 4 hrs here nothing sold they ate a tourist trap for sight and sound theater. Sorry but it's true. I'm a seller myself and I know the difference between selling and not wanting to sell or hoarding...

We asked about an item and she said she was closed... I guess she did not want our business since she...
