On 7/6 when I was taken to West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital (WCCH/CalCam), they did not document all of my allergies even after being told them. This is just one of things they did wrong on that first visit. Their failure to document the allergies I gave them resulted in them giving me a benzodiazepine I am highly allergy to. On July 21 my husband Tim took me to CalCam ER because there was a large amount of blood in my stool. In the emergency room it is diagnosedthat I have Colitis (already diagnosed with IBD). My anxiety starts to kick in and I request Xanax specifically. The Dr says they will put it in my IV with the pain meds. They start the IV and administer fluids and medications. I have to ask what he gave me for pain because they didnāt tell me when they put it in my IV they just gave it. I am unaware at this point that they gave me Lorazepam in my IV for anxiety. I am highly allergic and it causes an extreme altered state for me. For days. I believe I doze off at this point but Iām not sure because the next 12 hours are complete chaos. It continues for days. When they get me upstairs after admitting 3 people barge in and start talking. At this point I am already altered. And angry. And combative. The Dr states sheās giving me Norco for pain. Which is in a pill form, and not great for a gastric bleed anyway. Norco is Hydrocodone, and it is one of the medications I am allergic too. I tell the Dr I am allergic to Hydrocodone and she tells me āno youāre notā. I have documentation. So my husband shows her my medical records and they document it. At this point I am in an altered state and have really no clue what is happening to me. I am getting more and more angered and combative and I donāt know why. This is shortly after 5pm. I was in the ER at Noon so we are over 4 hours in. I am acting ācrazyā and no one knows why. At this point the staff has seen my allergies and they are aware they gave me the wrong meds. They NEVER tell my husband or myself that they gave me the wrong meds. They never administer anything to counter what they gave me. My husband requested they give me Xanax and they said no. After 5 more hours of my altered state they kick me out with disgust and discharge papers. They have a police escort for me. They advise my husband he needs to take me to Memorial Hospital where they can treat my āmental issuesā. At this point Iām terrified. I have no clue what is happening to me. My husband is asking me do I want to go to the other hospital but I do not want to I am in fear at this point. The next day the bleeding is still bad and we call an ambulance because my husband is a work and wonāt leave work. My husband has no clue that my behavior is from the lorazepam. He thinks Iāve gone crazy. The ambulance arrives and when they ask where I want to go I say āDo not take me to CalCamā and he says āYou donāt want to go to Killer Cam?ā We take me to St. Patrickās where I am admitted and treated for two days. The day they are sending me home my husband packed a bag and leaves me. Because I have āgone crazyā⦠when I get home and the fog starts to lift I begin to realize some thing isnāt right. When I realize they gave me lorazepam in the ER I realize that is what happened. I filed a complaint online with the hospital the next day. They immediately call me to find out whatās going on. After researching my complaint they request a conference call which I agreed to. During this call I learn that the hospital was made aware just after 5 that they had given me something I was allergic to. They admitted they didnāt think it would be a problem because it had been 4 hours already. I was not okay I was in an altered state. They could not tell me why no one admitted it. Or came forward. Or treated the reaction I was having. They admit they do not know why no one told me. I am definitely looking for legal representation, and I am taking my story public so that people can be aware not to go to West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital, unless they want to risk their life and leave ācrazyā...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went in for kidney stones and had the MOST RUDE NURSE PRACTITIONER I EVER HAVE DEALT WITH! This was at 10pm on July 2,17 . She didn't introduce herself and had worse bedside manner I've seen. She Gave me pain relief while I was there, would not send home pain meds because I had some and the reason I was there is cause what I had obviously didn't work! It was narco. Then earlier in the week after already going to urgent care and being diagnosed I had to go to cal cam On the 25th of June. Do to pain control and unable to urinate. The nurse I had told me my urgent care dr from the night before was lying because kidney stones can't be seen by X-ray. You need a Ct scan. Then Dr Quatrone told me I had nothing. No kidney stones. Well it's been a total all of over a week now and I have been trying to pass a stone 3mm and now my urologist is talking surgery. So thank you Cal-cam again for not knowing your butt from a hole in the ground! Dr Cavenaugh knew exactly what she seen on the X-ray and between her, lake area med center and my urologist I'm finally getting the treatmeant ive needed and if the dr at the Er Dr. Quadrone did his job he would have also caught the very bad infection the stone was giving me and put me on an antibiotic. So now 10 days later I'm on 2 antibiotics every 4 hrs and 1 every 6 hrs. I have had to do 2 antibiotic iv's , a strong shot of an antibiotic, strong pain meds also a beta blocker to help with my muscles in the bladder and such , heavy nausea meds and eating again. This dr, np, and the nurse that night need to be fired. They are more worried about bull crapping with each other than taking care of patients. To add on the 2nd of July when I seen the NP there , I asked for the dr to come in after her attitude with me, and he refused. First was told he was in another room and then told that the second time as well. I was in front of where he was sitting with my shade open and seen he never left his seat from the time I walked back to the room to the time I left. Note this was 3rd Er visit and 1 urgent care visit with Dr Cavenaugh. Dr. Cavenaugh is such a sweetheart and I appreciate all her help along with lake area medical ER, and my urologist. Without you I have no idea where I would be at this point. From passing out from pain, a seizure from pain, a very bad infection from the stone, anxiety attack due from pain and the not knowing, I'm so glad Dr. Cavenaugh first diagnosed me and helped me. Dealing from June 25th with cal cam to today July 3rd and getting in with a great urologist, just say it's been one heck 10 days and I'm still not ok. I do know my surgery and anything else needing done will not happen at cal cam. This Hosp...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is about my deceased husband of 54 years whom left me before expected. I took him to our local hospital one morning because he was dehydrated to the point he was weak and unsteady. He walked to the car, talking and aware of the situation. The ER saw him and admitted him with normal testing and agreed he needed attention. They kept him for 3 days with IV to help him get hydrated. Said he would have some PT before discharging him. However the 3rd night, while sleeping, his BP spiked over 200. The nurse was surprised. Even freaked out. They gave him a pill to lower it, but did no CT SCAN or testing. 4 hours later when his breakfast tray was brought, he had no use of his arms. Neither could he speak legible and never got back out of bed. The PT people came but couldn't do the standing. The Dr. Came in later and said had to discharge him. I mentioned the PT and she said he couldn't stand up. No mention of stroke. Had to bring husband home by ambulance as a TOTAL invalid. He died at home 4 days later after being fed by straw and Hospice came to help with hygiene and meds. Never left bed, til he passed 4 days later. When they did death certificate,--it says NATURAL CAUSES. Not so. He was a 20 year veteran who had contributing factor and was NOT natural cause. They say he was admitted for Alzheimer. He was admitted for dehydration due to his recent radiation treatments to treat the cancer. He had no appetite and the treatments had taken everything out of him. He was a veteran. Served his country including tours in Vietnam and Thailand where he was in contact with the dangerous agent that years later cause cancer. He was on 100% disability after he got the cancer. Because of the WCCH and the signing of the Death Certicate saying he was admitted for Alzheimer and died of natural causes, the Veterans Administration can not proceed to help me. I am entitled to benefits as his surviving spouse of a veteran. The hospital has never mentioned the drastic change from normal to Invalid. I asked for explanation and review. My letter came a month later saying they didn't think further testing would have changed outcome. Are they kidding.? THEY THOUGHT. I lost my husband too soon and no addressing the issue..I need the Death Certificate amended and no...
