My review isn't about the services, there is a lot of talent in that school. My review is that of a newly graduated student. I paid $6500 for an education to become a manicurist. I had never done nails before, so I came with no previous knowledge. I was confident I would graduate knowing everything I needed to know,oat importantly,I would have learned how to do nails, lay acrylic, learn how to use the tools properly, and would have the confidence to walk into a salon to get a job. That is not at all the case. The instructor Angie McJunkin does not bother to teach. There is no hand on instruction there. I was handed an e file before I even studied the chapter on E-filing, and was given clients to use this tool on them. Angie never bothered to show us how to use the file, what bits to use for the different things we needed to do. If it were not for the students there who knew how to do nails before coming to school, I wouldn't know what little I do know now. Students who teach each other, not the teacher. Angie sits at her desk eating snacks and on her phone all day. Her day consists of reading the chapter of the week aloud to us, reading the rest questions aloud and giving correct answers as we grade ourselves. She gets up to sign the client slip when we get the client, and then comes back to sign it as they are done. The rest of the time she is at her desk or out the backdoor vaping. When we are finished with our client she looks at the clients nails and asks them if they like them. They can look like crap and she will just say ok, and let the client go. There is no constructive criticism given to us so we can do better. No letting us or the client know that our world isn't the best and offer another appointment to fix it. She does not teach, period!!! If we get a client who wants a service we haven't done, she gets a student who does it well to sit and teach us as we do it while she sits at her desk snacking and being on her phone. The owner knows this, because I spoke to her about Angie. She asked me if I didn't think I was getting any education with Angie's curriculum, and I laughed and said no, not at all. That I am paying $6500 to be educated by students or trial and error. I told her how a day in Angie's class is, which I stated above. After that talk, nothing was done to change it, Angie still doesn't teach. The only thing that came of my talk with her about not only Angie's not teaching, but Angie's gossiping and bullying of and about her students, was stricter rules on us students. Angie continued to be lazy, not teach and bully. I watched her bully a 17 year old girl so hard that I had to step in and take up for the girl, and had to speak with the girl's father. I watched her gossip about another woman to other students every time she left the room. All of this was brought to the owner, Misty"s, attention, and again, nothing was done, other than the more strict rules on us, the students. It is hurtful and humiliating. Now myself, the 17 year old and the other woman have graduated, but we are still being gossiped about by this teacher to the students. The students who are our friends, who we all bonded with, friends that tell me what's going on still. It is awful to know that you are being trash talked by this woman who isn't even ever going to see you again. Like, why Angie? What is it that makes you be like this? It is disgusting! You made our experience so bad. You are making the students that you have now, so bad. They aren't stupid, if you speak about us like you do, they know you will speak about them the same. You currently have students who hate coming to class, BECAUSE OF YOU, AND BECAUSE NOTHING WILL BE DONE ABOUT YOU! They can't tell anyone to get you to stop they know that, and that's on Misty! I am so glad my time there is over, and that I am gone. I feel abused, hurt, and humiliated! I enjoyed my classmates and I very much enjoyed all of my clients, for them I am forever grateful, but I did not enjoy my journey at all with this school, this school failed me...

Attending nail school was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. When I first enrolled, I was simply looking to learn the basics of nail care and design. What I didn’t expect was how deeply I would fall in love with the craft and how much it would transform not only my skills but also my confidence and career path.

The education I received went far beyond polish and technique. I learned about nail health, sanitation, customer service, and even the business side of the beauty industry. Every day, I was challenged to grow creatively and professionally. My instructors pushed me to perfect my work and encouraged me to keep learning and evolving. That foundation gave me the tools I needed to not only succeed as a nail tech, but to thrive.

After graduating, I launched my nail business with a passion and vision. Slowly but surely, I built a loyal client base, expanded my service menu, and found my personal style as an artist. The more I applied what I had learned, the more confident I became not just in my skills, but in my ability to lead.

Today, I’m proud to say that I’ve grown into a management position, leading a talented team of nail techs. I mentor newer artists, guide the direction of the salon, and continue to work with clients. It’s been a full-circle moment starting as a student and now helping others build their own paths in the industry.

Every time I have ever been a client at the Sweetwater Institute of Cosmetology, I have been very pleased. They are very professional and I always enjoy their conversation. The school offers a great array of services and their prices are easy on your wallet. Make sure you leave extra time for you services because these amazing people are still learning and it may take them a little longer than at a traditional salon.
