Hanson Audio Video — Local services in Sycamore Township

When a company reaches out asking for my feedback in regards to my experience with them I normal let the email slowly sink into the dark abyss which is my email inbox. When I saw Ben had reached out to me asking about the headphones I purchased there, I felt obligated to give my response.

To give some context, I came to Hanson to try out some high end head phones. Something better than I could get from Best Buy. I ended up buying one of the last pairs of Audeze LCD-1 ref. headphones.

The first comment I'll make is the shear amount of knowledge they have there regarding high end audio. I left there with a pair of headphones and a blown mind. I had no idea the rabbit hole went that deep.

The second comment is more of the meat and potato's of this review. It's in regards to how I was treated. I am not the average customer that walks through those doors. I drive a 2001 Toyota Corolla that makes so much noise, the 1 Million dollar HIFI system inside couldn't drown it out. To be more to the point, 99% of the items inside are out of my price range and Ben probably heard me coming a mile away. Even though it was obvious I wasn't going to be buying much from them, I wasn't treated as a lesser person. So, if you have the cash for the other 99% that I can't afford, you'll have a great experience working with them to get the right set up.

I hope this is satisfactory for a customer review because it will probably be the last one I write. Or, I might try my luck with the Porsche dealership over off of Fields Ertel and see if I can test drive a 2023 911. If I pull that off, I might have to write one...

I’ve reached out to Hanson twice about products. The first time they told me that they didn’t carry the product. So I reached out to the manufacturer and was directed back to Hanson, but this time their custom installation team. Andres was generally helpful with the gear I was inquiring about but was pushy to get the entire project. Hanson doesn’t carry all the brands for products I was interested in. Get over it, I’m going to have the system built that I want. I’m not going to limit it to any one vendor’s portfolio. In all fairness numerous others also took this approach and none of them received any business from me. The store I went with asked, but was fine with working with other systems or audio shops.

The second time I reached out for automated blackout shades. I went into the store to inquire about options and the prices. Again I was connected with Andres and was extremely put off by the response I got. Without even talking to me about my needs, coming to see the job, or even asking me for pictures, I was given a general cost per shade (fine) and then given an estimated cost for the project. It was then stated if “I was comfortable spending $15K before tax and labor, then we could move forward.” I will find another solution or option and Hanson is likely to never obtain any of my business. It’s a great shop with great products, but the don’t offer anything that can’t be found elsewhere and at a significant price break from sources...

There are a lot of companies out there you can contact for audio video equipment/smart home packages - especially when you are building a new home. Trust me, I did the research and was overwhelmed with how many different companies, options, and base systems that can be implemented.

These guys at Hanson are second to none. And trust me-- I am picky. These guys are experts and are really good at smart home/AV. My smart home system runs on Control4 and has 12+ TV's, Theater Room, 8+ zones, in-ceiling speakers, outdoor patio tv, and 3 in wall control panels. So its an involved system for AV. Not to mention they also had to coordinate with my builder on several different phases of construction: Pre-wiring, electrical, install. (That in itself is worthy of a sixth star). They even came back to the house after builder was complete to fine-tune. Rick, Nate, Troy and the team stopped at nothing short to make the process smooth and they delivered a reliable, badass system. Good thing I am friends with my neighbors-- This system is powerful.

Would I use these guys again? Absolutely. Would I do more with them on my next house? Absolutely. ...
