We wanted to love it but...(sorry this is long) We were looking for a fun activity to do for our anniversary on a Saturday afternoon before going out to dinner. Never had heard of this place and the website presented this as an exciting something for everyone kind of place. We were most excited about trying an escape room for the first time so headed about 30 minutes to Funagins. Upon arriving there is a well done sign out front for identification. After pulling in, i noticed what may have been at one point a put-put coarse (?) but was now grown up and abandoned. I chalked it up to the possibility of maybe it was down for renovations and proceeded. There are two large metal buildings and an entrance in between. Oddly enough, no signs for first time visitors to indicate actual entrances or for what. Hesitantly we opened the door and it surprisingly led us into a pathway to a skating rink. Confused we wondered around just inside the door trying to find signs or instructions on escape rooms. None that we could find. Went to the desk at the rink and spoke with a nice young girl who explained that the escape rooms are upstairs and reserved online but our understanding was there would be people upstairs to assist us with any other questions. Note: this was the only positive interaction with an employee or honestly ineraction of any kind and I wish I could tell you her name. We proceeded through what felt like still an unmarked maze looking around and for a stairway. My wife needed to use the restroom. No running water unless you pump a foot pedal which was poor at best. While she was in there I viewed what appeared to be more abandoned overgrown property out back. Now we were both weirded out. This place was almost deserted for its size. Maybe five people in the rink and 2 in the arcade that we saw at least. Walked past a place with food but after lack of reasonable bathroom facilities did not seem inclined. We were still on the hunt for what we came for. Entered the arcade which was very dark. Immediately noticed a gigantic kids play place in the back of the room lurking in the darkness and I mean DARK. I would not let out child climb into something so expansive where it was too dark to even see obstacles or steps. The toolboxes and tools in the background were also not an encouraging sign that in its current state it would be structurally sound. We proceeded through a decent sized arcade while noticing out of order signs. We did not even exist to the staff member in arcade. Starting to feel invisible and more like the twilight zone we proceeded to try to find escape rooms with no signs. There was a stairway inside blocked off. Again no signs indicating that would take us where we needed to go I decided that was employees only and went through a one way door back outside to an external stairway. After climbing the stairway there was what appeared to be ransacked abandoned offices. Dust and clutter everywhere it was thoroughly trashed. Now we are extremely confused but cautiously open the door. I felt like I was trespassing or about to walk into a dangerous area unaware. Here we are in a hallway with doors on both sides. No signs. We assumed escape rooms. No employees but hey there is that stairway that was blocked off. Looked all over and waited to ask someone questions. No one came. Thoroughly creeped out and now tired of trying to figure out how to give this place our business we left. Here is the constructive criticism. Note: I don't know if this is an up and coming business or a business on its way out but asomething is off.
Signs. Your sign outside is impressive for your location. Please continue guiding guests throughout your business. Training. Your employees except for one, could not be more uninterested in the guests or their job. Clearly they act miserable and seem to not want to be there. Upkeep. This place could be epic but appears overall abandoned. Lack of maintenance, cleaning, and organizing is concerning. Layout. The current layout could be an eescape room. Maybe that is...
Read moreI did not even want to give one star, however I would not have been able to leave this review. I Have went to multiple birthday parties here and I will honestly say I will not ever go back. Waste of time & money... We made the best of it but each time was a bad experience. There is always some construction going on, the " arcade area" where half of the games are do not work. The laser tag area you could only go in a small section of it, on top of that the staff that was back there did not explain anything properly to my kids group, instead what they did was just say what not to do and the kids were left to figure it out. We are talking 5-8 yr olds. There also is a pretty big indoor playground that was crazy. It looks cool from the outlook, however It is so big it was not possible for me to see my kids. I saw so many toddlers & older kids which was a recipe for disaster. No area just for smaller kids. My 8 yr old helped a toddler come down bc she was up in the highest part lost and crying. Definitely was not even okay as far as customer service is regarded most of the employees/staff including the owner were just rude and mean. The only one that was nice was the person working at the skate rentals. I think they tried but clearly are in way over their head. Not to mention the last time we went one of the male employees made passes at my minor daughter. When reported to owner who I already had conversations with so I'm sure she was bias, however she basically rolled her eyes & said we took it the wrong way. He asked her if she had a boyfriend & what's her number and he asked her like 3 times. When she said she was not interested & how old she was, he then made comments about her appearance and how pretty she was. It made her so uncomfortable she didn't want to skate anymore. That is " not taking it the wrong way." Overall I would definitely not go back there people like this have no business trying to run a family oriented establishment. Very trashy. I guess if you don't care how people treat you, or if most of the place is "under construction" "can't use," or just lack of proper safety conditions, then maybe some do not mind. I know there are not to many places like this for kids in this area but I would rather drive and go into michigan than go there which is 10 min...
Read more6/2019 It's a paintball field. They used to have indoor fields, but the inside has been converted to a skating rink, and kid games. I don't go often because I have moved away, but sometimes meet friends here. I know many of the employees, so I may be biased as to saying they are nice and fair. Refs call me out same as anybody. The fields are outdoor, staging is indoor. They have two small fields. One is a plywood city, the other is a spool field.
They do not sell any paintball gear. Infact, they don't even have a shop. You can ask the staff to help you, but officially they don't do any service, or sales. This is really bad since they are the only paintball place in town. They do rent gear. They fill co2 and hpa. I would think overall it's a poor business model. They don't support the sport/hobby. I don't know business mission, but for paintball, they have killed it in the area.
Many people in town will drive up to 200 miles to play at other fields. There are people who play, but don't come here. I can't say why. I personally have had no issues, and have heard many compliments. I won't speak to any of that. I understand that every story has two sides, and neither is in the wrong. What I can say, local paintball players don't play here. Many used to go to the other field in Bowling Green, but that was taken over and closed by this owner.
My low rating is because they keep downsizing the paintball part of the business. It was better. Now they are down to two fields. The place is clean enough. The bathroom is nice enough. People don't come here to play paintball.
They need to open a store, run events, and support the sport, or let it go. They need a different business model. I think the owner should let someone else who is passionate about it run the paintball business. If not with him, as competition. Maybe just give it up altogether. They last two times I went here, the only people who came all day was the group I met up with, and a few families. I did not play. I don't want to run over a family that came for fun being over competitive. They even offered to pay for us to play against them. I have been known to throw a game for little kids fun shooting me out, but I didn't want to play all...
