Extra Space Storage — Local services in Tega Cay

My experience at extra space storage has been the worst I’ve ever delt with in putting my belongings in storage. It first started when I went to pay for my unit so I can move my things in 😵‍💫 it was supposed to be free and it was not it was almost $200 (the fine print stated it’s up to the managers discretion ) not cool I should have known from there it was going to be a nightmare. Needless to say it was always a reason my $80 unit was costing me extra (the fees are their bonus) the rate keeps getting higher. After a year in the unit it’s time for me to move out I call the day before to make sure there would be no issues as my daughter was going to be the one closing my unit. She gets there to find no employees I call and call no answer so I had to pick another location to call to figure out what the issue is my unit was in Charlotte Tila is my point of contact but she has been a problem from the door so I call the SC location and get Josh and he has been a godsend to say the least he listen to my situation and did what he could do to get the mess straightened out. We are still trying to get everything worked out because I no longer live in the state but the moral of the story is when working with the public your paycheck should never be the reason you refuse to help a customer esp when it was not my fault your employee wasn’t coming to work. Tila refused and if it was up to her my things would be sold in auction. She was rude and disrespectful at every turn no compassion or decency (my mother passed away in the middle of this time and she put my things up for auction. I paid it before that happen but not without a $300 fee. She calls me regularly just to be nasty and I’m over it. I rather call Josh and handle the business with him and his location doesn’t even house my items but he treated me like a person with respect. If I had to just deal with the other person I would be tweeting don’t use extra space storage but Josh restored my faith in the company. Update status … They will be auctioning off my stuff because I cannot pay fees beyond the date I was to move out of my unit even though there employee refused service and did not let me move out of my unit because they change the locks trying to auction off my belongings again after I paid the fees … the thing is my mom passed away during my time here and all my documents are in there for me and my mother passports birth certificates etc things that have no value to another person I will never rent another storage unit and will for ever shot to the top of my lungs DO NOT RENT FROM EXTRA SPACE storage from these money hungry no integrity having ppl. Selling people stuff because your employee did not like her job should not be my downfall. Extra space storage sucks now I’m going to make a tic too of all the events with the black and white texts and the fact that at one point I was selling stuff just to keep my documents safe as I’m homeless and they just took the last bit of dignity I have left and the manger bought some of my pieces ....

When I first began renting from Extra Space Storage, things went well. Rate stayed consistent for the first 9 months. Then my unit was broken into as well as many others. I asked that they add additional cameras to cover the back on the property and to raise the fence to the same height as the front drive through gate fence. Was not done.

Then damage to my unit/items from a careless driver in an oversized truck 3 months later, on top of a rate increase. They did reduce my rate back to what I had been paying after I objected given what I had been through. Again, no security improvements were made.

Some time later they did add some additional cameras but left everything else the same, as well as increasing my rate two more times.

Then as of 5 days ago, their facility was broken into again with multiple units vandalized and items stolen, my unit among them.

So while the attendants/managers are nice/helpful, the owner or overall company cares little about the security of their properties (and yours) and you are largely left to either using their insurance or your own if you seek compensation (which never covers the hassle and frustration).

All in all, crime in the area is increasing and Extra Space Storage chooses to not to improve its security as a response (after 3 years of informing them they need to). Fun fact, while criminals can come and go as they please, you will be locked out after 10 pm. Do not recommend based on the lack of security and response from...

This location is top notch. I was able to store things while I made the permanent transition from NJ. Booking it over the phone on my way down was a wonderful experience from the super friendly greeting to the bulk of it being handled before my arrival. The perfect unit location was suggested for what I was looking for within the facility. All my questions were thoroughly answered making check-in a breeze. The facility is conveniently located on a main road which was important for an out-of-towner unfamiliar with the area. I was surprised to learn it was a few years old since it felt brand new. It is well maintained , clean and felt very secure, as well as excellent access hours. For my first time using one of these places, I couldn’t be happier that we chose this one. Deciding to leave the only place I’ve ever known to move to the unknown was a difficult decision. Having Tim and Mike be one of my first interactions helped me realize I was making the right choice relocating.
