First off, I hate that I must post this, that being said, here we go! I have been going to this Red Bowl in Tega Cay, SC for over 7 years. In the beginning, Red Bowl was what I deemed a "Charlotte Food Find". Good quality, great portions, good prices and friendly service. As the years have gone by, the quality has diminished, the portions and prices have remained good, but as of tonight, the friendly service is no longer a consideration. My family and another family we are friends with, went to Red Bowl on Saturday April 20th around 9:30pm. When we arrived our friends were seated and we joined them to eat. We ordered and as the food was brought out, we did notice that the waiter gave us the checks before we even started eating. So we all checked the hours to make sure they were not closing soon. The hours clearly stated that they were closing at 11pm. Remember, we got there around 9:30pm, so they were still open for an hour and a half. The manager or whoever he is, kept close watch on our table and was hovering around us the whole meal. There were two other tables in the whole restaurant and we were all sitting on the same side of the restaurant, so the manager could stand in one spot and monitor all the customers from one vantage point. Now let me point out we all wear a brown complexion, black for those that think black is what we are. The other two tables were white patrons. The waiter was white and the manager Asian. Not at any point did the manager person even speak to the white patrons, but all of his attention was on our table. Let me set the scene, 2 husbands, 2 wives and 3 kids between us all at one table and all brown people. Now this place ranges from $5-$20, so the prices are not astronomical, but we spent about ,$70-$80 with TIPS, in this place. Now this may not be a lot to many, but as a business owner myself and frequent patron of restaurant establishments, $70-$80, is good money regardless of the amount or who it is coming from. We are all in the business to make money right as business owners? I confronted the manager person and point blank asked him do you want us to leave? We were not doing anything to anyone, just eating and when we finished we just sat for a few and caught up via conversation. By this time, its 10:30, so they still close in 30 minutes, in which we didnt plan to stay there until they close the doors. He didnt answer the question he just says, the kitchen closes at 10:45. Now we already had to go boxes for our food, everyone has paid and the tips provided. I expressed to the manager person that I have been coming here for a long time, over 7 years as I stated earlier, and we have never been treated so horribly by this establishment. Needless to say that was our last time spending money with that place ever AGAIN! WARNING IF YOU ARE A BROWN PERSON OR PEOPLE LIKE WE ARE, THIS PLACE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY! Lastly, as a business owner myself, I would NEVER seek to lose a repeat customer for any reason. Repeat customers are the lifeblood of any business. This place does not understand that core business principle. If you are looking for a good place for Asian Cuisine, please do yourself a favor and choose to spend your money with a place that deserves it and appreciates...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Red Bowl in Tega Cay and I LOVE Asian food, particularly red curry. I got there around 2:30pm. The Asian man at the bar never looked up to see what was going on in the restaurant yet appeared to be management. I ordered Red Curry with tofu. The spring roll that came with my entree was decent. The red curry came in a decorative clay dish with a lid, on top of a plate, and a side of brown rice. My server told me it was hot. When I lifted the lid, my entree was boiling like a witch's cauldron. I didn’t have room on the plate to put my rice on it and then spoon the curry over it so I tried to pull the clay pot off my plate and burned my fingers. I used my napkin as a pot holder to get the bubbling cauldron off my very hot plate. I was not given chop sticks or even offered any. I am an experienced chopstick user and prefer to use them with Asian dishes. Suffice it to say that it was the second worst curry dish I ever had. I will not be back. All of their TV advertising dollars are wasted. They got me in their door but can’t keep me as a customer. It feels like this place has run its course and it is now just going through the motions but not making much of an effort to operate a good restaurant. A very uneventful restaurant experience. Very...
Read moreJust spoke w John at Red Bowl he has a strong Asian accent. Called to let him know 2 out of 3 of my meals had no flavor they were just very bland and noodles stuck together. Btw Sushi was okay. John just tried convincing me that this is how they make it and you have to ask for more flavor. I said oh well if I would have known that then I wouldn’t have got mine to go so I could stay and ask for more flavor until it tasted good. Unfortunately I’m at home and I didn’t ask for any flavor to go so I’m SOL. Never raised my voice or was negative towards John. He asked me to bring it back and I said that’s not an option so he offered me 20% off next time and I was honest and told him there won’t be a next time. Must say John handled it pretty well he truly thought it was okay to sell bland food and the customer just needs to ask for flavor haha. Read the review from 2 months ago of Harrison and the brown family being discriminated. A customer of 7 years and you treat them like that. Was thinking 2 star but this place is a 1 Star. Why didn’t I read that first and...
