My experiences with the Y this year have been awful. First my 16 year old son was attacked and beat up during a basketball game by a grown man. The worker stood there and watched the entire thing. When I called to ask for camera footage to press charges on the man who attacked my son I was dismissed as if it was no big deal. I called for 5 days trying to get management to work with me on filing a police report, they refused to take my calls or call me back.
Staff are uneducated on programs, packages, billing and all other account things.
Childcare is open one day and not the next. Never know when they’re going to abide by the actual schedule, so when you show up with your kids you may or may not have to walk right back out.
Training programs and classes are often cancelled or changed until “further notice.” You don’t get what you pay for because of it.
Pool is open and closed when they decide.
There’s no consistency with any schedules or programs here.
Management and administration are either never available or refuse to take your calls.
Their staff member Micah is confrontational and looks for trouble with members. We have personally been approached by him inappropriately multiple times.
They don’t mind embarrassing members, targeting members and discriminating against people. I’ve had it done to me and have seen them do it to others. Predominantly black members, asking if they have memberships when they walk in the door, not giving people a chance to show they do but just assuming they’re trying to sneak in.
I’ve had more issues here than any place I have ever been to. Being a business owner and previous gym owner myself I have had enough of the unprofessionalism of this place. It’s truly sad to see a place only care about the next dollar instead of treating members with respect. As a black gay female I truly felt under attack in this place. They want one type of crowd for their members and that shows.
The one positive is that the other fellow members are nice for the most part and people are there simply to work out but outside of that I have nothing good to say about this facility. I’ve never been treated inhumane so terribly and multiple...
Read moreSet up Swim lessons for my 5-year old grand- daughter. $95 for 4 weeks, two times a week, 1/2 hour a session.
It did not go too well from the start. The first instructor she had either quit or got fired. Something. He also got the time mixed up on one of the days.
Then, the bad weather kicked in and a couple were cancelled. Then, they had machinery malfunction.
Then, we were told that they were going to start it all over with a different instructor. Four more weeks without additional charges.
Well, the young guy they got to instruct seemed nice, but he did not have the personality to work with kids. She loves the water but she is afraid to learn to swim underwater. I told both the instructors about that. The first guy addressed it immediately by having her put her face in the water. The second boy just seemed bored and did the exact same things with her each time. No underwater. My Dad taught us to swim in one day and we started out learning underwater.
Then, we ended up not getting our last week. Then, she got so bored, she didn't want to go to the last two makeup days. She went anyway to the next to the last one, but we said heck with it on the last one.
So, basically, after $95, she knows no more than what I've been able to teach her. I just can't get her over the fear.
I am not speaking about the whole YMCA, but they really need work on their swim lessons. Will not be taking her there again. I am moving soon so will not be around a pool, so now I'm worried that she may never learn. I feel like it is so important for every...
Read moreI have tried again and again to enjoy our local Y because I really want too!! After having the pool closed and COVID I was ready to get back at it and start swimming again. Went a few times with relatively few issues. There are not many lanes lines actually up during lap swim time so you may have to wait for someone to get out and will definitely have to share a lane. I went one evening at what I thought were lap swim times but was agitated to see that no lap lanes were in. I was told by a few different people to follow the website at which point I pulled up the hours to double check that I did not look at something wrong and I got a shoulder shrug and and agitated (at me) lifegaurd for questioning when lap swim was. The website says to to download an app but nobody could tell me which app because I couldn' find it. Not sure if one really exists. My experience ended with the very friendly front desk employee basically telling me to never look on the website for accurate hours because they are never right and I have to come and get a paper schedule(which is unreadable due to the coloring) This is very inconvenient as I live outside of Terre Haute. Will I probably still have to swim at the Y, yes!. Am I happy about it, No! but there aren't too many options that work with my schedule. I do not understand why so many other Y facilities flourish and offer stellar services...
