This is an opportunity for Prisoners to develop their inner self-skills, learn skills using their hands and their imagination for absolutely Beautiful items, useful furnishings and fun gifts for your own home, family and friends! Another wonderful reason to shop here is your purchases will turn into a profit for the State Prison to function this "Second Chance Learning Program" for inmates to take pride and joy for the handmade items they make! A fantastic way to have their personal life change for the good of themselves and everyone else. The items are certainly well worth the price and quality! You will be surprised of the integrate Custom built items and Reasonable Prices! A Very well sewn doggy toys, wooden paddy wagon with lots of details, achorsaway napkin holder, funny bug trap and garden (terracotta pot) holders made of wood. There are Beautiful Jewelry Boxes, Bowls, Lazy-susans, wooden hampers, you name it they have it including gorgeous lamps, kid toys, laptop holders that open up to place your work inside, so much more! Excellent quality crafts at cheap prices. I bought a lighthouse shaped bird house which my birds really like. I've just bought several more birdhouses.

Update. There is a reason the birdhouses are so cheap, it's not just that they are made by prison labor, they use poor quality wood. Two of the three bird houses that I bought this spring have big cracks in them. The one I bought a couple of years ago is in rough shape. The houses are very nice looking when new, and very cheap, but you should think of them as disposable, good for no more than two years.

Update 2:I just threw out my first birdhouse from here, the wood was completely rotten. The workmanship and design of their birdhouses is top notch, but the materials are terrible. I'd be happy to pay more for a product that didn't deteriorate in a year or two. Clearly they aren't using a wood that's meant for outdoor use, please switch to something that can survive outdoors.

One more addition. Don't buy the wooden bird feeder, it looks nice when you buy it but it will be destroyed by squirrels in about a week, they chew right through it. I've posted a picture...

I haven been going here for many years. If you like really nice items made from wood, then you'll love this place. There are toys, furniture, bird houses, wall decorations, nautical items, rocking horses, hope chests, dressers, candle holders, desk accessories and more. I love the nautical themed items and have purchased many items. I also love the bird houses. They hold up really well in the hard winters in NJ. I wish everyone could read this because the items are incredible. It's safe and it's a regular store. It's worth the trip. If you're passing through, be sure to add enough time to your trip to give yourself a couple of hours to shop. And, you'll need lots of room in your car. One time I filled the trunk and seats with so much stuff that I had to tie a couple of things to the roof. No kidding! I wish they had an online store. Beautiful...

My wife and I visited the Maine State Prison Showroom on 09/29/2024 during our drive from Portland to Bar Harbor, and I’m so glad we made the stop. We had read about the store from an ad on the placemat at Moody's Diner, and it piqued our curiosity. The store is full of amazing handcrafted items made by inmates, including toys, furniture, and arts and crafts. We bought a guitar birdhouse, an acorn birdhouse, and a beautifully crafted wooden bowl. The quality of the items is exceptional, with professional craftsmanship, and the prices are very reasonable. The store wasn’t busy, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for unique, well-made gifts, this is the perfect place!
