Melanie is a gem. Everyone at the shop are just the sweetest! I drove over from Albany, NY after not finding anyone in the area with good enough reviews. I have a wedding dress with a LOT of detailing (embroidery, sequins, 3-D sequin flowers, will post photos after the wedding!) that needed to be taken in just a little bit at the waist and I was so nervous due to how detailed the dress is. I knew it would need a true expert's hand. After scouring the internet for a seamstress I could trust, I came across Stitch on Main, who had wonderful reviews. I called and made an appointment and made the 2 hour drive to CT and I'm so happy I did. Melanie was so sweet and reassured me she could do the alteration. In fact, I felt SO comfortable with her at my first visit that we decided on a custom-made veil as well! I just picked up my dress on Saturday after a month and a half of waiting for the alterations, which for a wedding dress, I thought was very reasonable. Pricing for what I did was extremely reasonable as well. The veil came out so amazingly. She picked a color that matched my dress perfectly and I sent her some dragonfly appliques to add to it and I must say that it came out so perfect (will also post photos after the wedding)! The dragonflies are a nod to my late mother and Melanie had an idea to put one on the veil right over my shoulder so it's almost like she's right there with me. Talk about a person who really knows their art and what this day means to people. Just the sweetest.
I know it's common at wedding dress shops but I literally cried when I put my newly altered dress on with my beautiful veil. I can not wait to show my future husband.
Melanie, thank you so so SO much for your care, talent, and, overall, an absolutely amazing shop with the best vibes! Take the leap, you won't regret it.
Read moreI want to share our experience because I wish I had known this before buying my daughter's wedding dress here. While the store itself may have a nice selection, and the owner/staff can be very friendly, the alterations process was extremely disappointing. The communication was poor, our concerns were ignored, and the final work on the dress left us very, very upset during what should have been a joyful time. The last fitting (she had at least 5 fittings, over 5 months--it was not a time crunch) was 3 days before the wedding--it was a Thursday afternoon, 4:30 PM, with the wedding on Sunday afternoon. What stood out was how unresponsive and unconcerned the staff were when we expressed our concerns. They were either ignored (oh, yes, we will do that for the next fitting) or alterations were done in a very poor and obviously unfinished way. Each time we left a fitting, we were told--it would be done for the next time. For something as important as a wedding, that lack of care and professionalism was really disheartening.
We left Stitch on Main at 4:30 on Thursday, hurried to another tailor (see Litchfield Tailor) in town who was so gracious and kind enough to spend the next 3 days reworking dress alterations in addition to her busy alterations business AND over the weekend! The entire bustle had to be redone (SoM left it hanging off to one side and unfinished, definitely not even close to what was promised). The details and extent of the issues (unfinished work, poor workmanship, inside stains on the dress, and a dress that was so uncomfortable that my daughter couldn't have worn it the way they "finished" it) are extensive.
If you do decide to purchase a dress here, I strongly recommend taking it elsewhere for alterations.
I highly recommend Litchfield...
Read moreI cannot convey enough how incredible the folks are at Stitch on Main! We planned our whole wedding in just 2 weeks, and I really wanted a consignment dress to be more environmentally friendly. I made an appointment and showed up hoping to find something and left with the most perfect dress. It didn't need many alterations, so they did them while we waited so I could take it home with me! Absolutely incredible! They also let me come and go throughout the day to buy accessories and things I needed to see it all together which made the whole experience so comfortable. It was important to me to have the experience of dress shopping with my mom and I definitely got it at Stitch on Main. They let me try any dress I wanted from their awesome selection, even if it was just for fun. I felt so comfortable working with them, they were so kind and honest throughout the process and I am SO glad I was able to find a consignment dress that worked for me! Thanks so much again, you guys...
