Fairway Finer Foods — Local services in Thornton Township

I’m a local resident and for as long as I can remember of my 9 yrs living here this store has always had outdated food, meats and bakery products even sometimes the fresh fruit and vegetables even the cheese and sour cream. Which is a very serious health concern this store needs to be INSPECTED by HEALTH DEPARTMENT before someone becomes verrrrrrry ILL.This is very sad and disgust’s me I once bought meat here an within 2-3 days it went bad🤮 an had a very foul smell cake 2-3 days the taste was so bad 🤢 it’s as if they stamped expiration dates that were not true on these items. I feel really very bad for residents that have no other choice but to shop here because of transportation but this store definitely needs to be looked into and put out of business. I would never again risk me or my children health or supporting this store with any of my money. The lottery machine is probably the only thing that’s not outdated at the store soo soo sad. UPDATE (2 stars) because they had great service recovery and manager removed all the others from the shelf immediately.👍🏽 As I mentioned before there are just things I dont buy there. PIZZA is one of them but my grandson didn't know better. He bought 2 and opened the first one and hoped the second one was better - it wasn't. They're as bad on the back as they are on the front. I know that the problem can start anywhere factory, distribution, store, etc... but man... it always ends up reflecting poorly on the stores. 😑

It was a typical neighborhood store. I gave 4 stars for this visit because I easily found what I was looking for and the cashier was nice and there was no line at checkout. Took a long careful look. I saw several last day and expired foods in the deli and dairy. Produce showed signs that food was in the crisper right up to the edge of safety.

The meat department is atrocious. I saw dried blood under the grates, meats that were out long enough to be discolored dangerously and the temperature in the open air cooler was not cold enough for storing meat. The deli equipment was caked with months if not years of grime.

Staff is very pleasant but clearly undermanned and overworked for this size of grocery.

I used to be a butcher's assistant and my old boss would have tanned my hide if he saw what I saw. DO NOT BUY MEAT OR PRODUCE HERE. Be wary of canned foods and boxed ones. Check their dates first. Paper products, cleaners, alcohol and dry goods...
