Would not recommend this gym unless you enjoy getting robbed and exploited. Geralyn Russo was my sales person and it seems like all she cares about is getting people to sign up via lying to them (I am sure she receives commission for robbing people); giving me false incentives such as "3 free months" (which are not actually free).
When I signed up, I was told that I would receive a $50 gift card for simply SHOWING UP to a results protocol session. The morning of the session I received an email saying my appointment was cancelled. When I called to inquire about why they cancelled my appointment I was told that I needed to confirm the appointment via test message which I never received. I texted Geralyn telling her that my appointment was cancelled and I called the gym to try and reschedule. The person on the phone told me that in order to receive the $50 I would have to show up to the session AND PURCHASE TRAINING, which I am certainly not looking to do. I told Geralyn that the person at the gym told me I needed to buy training and that she told me something completely different and guess what? ... she left me on read!
That is just the start... I was charged $23 in hidden fees + 50 the first month at the gym, then $117 and then another $100 to cancel! Awesome! So I spent $300 for 2 months at the gym. As soon as I saw the absurdity of this charge on my bank statement I text Geralyn and asked her why I was charged $23 in hidden fees that she did not tell me about. Guess what? Left on delivered. After paying a $100 fee to cancel my membership (which OF COURSE they will not tell you about beforehand), I sent her a text message asking her why she lied to me about so many different things. Her response? She never lied about anything and that if I had any questions to contact the billing company.
After she dances around all of the scams I called her out on, she says that I am wasting her time and that she is not going to spend her "day off" talking to me... and then she blocks me because she literally knows that she told me several things that were not true in order for me to sign up so she can get her little commission check.
Prices have also gone up even higher, and probably even more hidden fees. My advice is to totally come to this gym if you are looking to be absolutely robbed and make sure you ask for Geralyn Russo as well if you want the most disrespectful sales person possible!

I've been a member since 2002 and I remain a member because the good outweighs the bad here. Jersey Strong offers a decent value for your dues but is held back by the membership at large. More on that later.
The gym is pretty big with a wide assortment of 20th Century equipment which they make a noticeable effort to maintain. On any given day, 99-100% of the equipment is in good repair. When the inevitable wear & tear makes a piece of equipment unusable or dangerous, it's repaired and put back into service very quickly. I'm definitely impressed by that. QR codes on each machine make reporting easy and the management IS monitoring these reports.
I also think the gym operator handled the covid months well. Somehow, they managed to say afloat without a revenue stream.
It's too bad babysitting never returned. My kids grew up there and had a blast with Eleanor and Carla.
The biggest negative is the membership at large. Most members are normal, courteous people from the surrounding communities. Quite a few, however, have no concept of gym etiquette or their fellow members and make the Jersey Strong experience a negative one. Examples:
-Failing to strip the bar. By far my biggest pet peeve as this is constant. -Super-setting during peak hours -Failing to return equipment. How hard is it to re-rack? Why do I have to search the gym for the matching dumbbell? Why does the astro turf room always look like a gigantic litter box with equipment randomly strewn everywhere? Why are 10 lb plates buried behind three 45 lb plates?
I could go on but you get the picture.
I am disappointed that Jersey Strong does not encourage common standards of gym etiquette. There are no shortage of signs in this gym about this and that.. How about one (or a dozen) that reads "RE-RACK YOUR WEIGHTS"? Maybe they think they will alienate members. I think the bulk of the membership will welcome such an effort.
In summary, you're doing a good job, Jersey Strong; now encourage your members...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had the misfortune of joining what I can only describe as the most unwelcoming and scheming gym I've ever seen. This is the first time I've felt the need to write a review due to how horrible my experience was. My friend and I decided to give this gym a try over the summer, but the excitement faded when we saw how expensive it was. When we expressed our hesitation to commit to a subscription, Geralyn bombarded us with so-called "better offers" and "special discounts." so we accepted. We were never told that these offers would DOUBLE in price after just one month. Despite this, we kept our subscription. We underwent a body mass scan to tailor our workouts and were offered a personal trainer. We were spoken to separately and I, despite clearly expressing my intention to follow my friend's workout routine, had to listen to Theresa make baseless assumptions about my friend's weight loss journey, insinuating unhealthy methods and making sexist remarks about women's understanding of fitness. Theresa's disrespect didn't stop there; she questioned my friend's ability to work out and even went so far as to make my friend show her how to deadlift on the spot. Despite our objections, she insisted that we needed a trainer to make any progress. This not only felt disrespectful but was also a blatant attempt to pressure us into additional expenses. While the gym facilities were passable, the overall experience was lengthy, draining, and overshadowed by the unprofessional conduct of the staff. To add insult to injury, the fee to cancel our membership was never disclosed upfront, we paid around $120 just to leave!! Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere. Planet Fitness, for example, offers a comparable experience with 1/6 of the cost, with far more pleasant staff. Don't fall victim to the deceptive practices of this gym ā find a place that respects its members and values...
