To be clear, this is about the Home Depot rental. The experience started out with the rental clerk trying to convince me that the primary pump on the tool I was using was actually the choke. Pointed out to him that it was not in fact the joke it was a primer and then he started to argue with me. Eventually I figured out which one the joke was and he was able to start the tool. Well, have to work that I performed was just starting and restarting this tool. Either it's a bad tool to start with (Little Wonder hedge trimmer) or this one will simply out of tune. Wasn't until I was halfway through the day that I finally figured out that you had to tweak something in order for it to start properly. The next bit of fun was returning the tool. I checked to make sure that home Depot was open till 10:00. I arrived just after 9:00 p.m. only to find a big sign on the door that the rental return closes at 8:00 p.m. nowhere on my rental agreement and at no time during my lengthy conversation with the two team members at the counter did anyone mention closing time. Since it was 2 hours different from the store I think that was an important detail to invest me with before I left. Anyway, I walked over to the door of the main store and the sign on the door said they close at 9:00 p.m. undaunted, I walked in the door and asked what time they close. They said they close at 10:00 p.m. I mentioned there's a huge sign on the door that says they close at 9:00 p.m. they assured me that they had recently changed the hours. And I suggested that since they were open till 10:00 p.m., with all the resources in the store I'm sure they could have figured out a way to indicate that on the sign. Next step was to return the tool. I was told repeatedly by several store clerks that the rental shop was closed and I had to return the next day. I inform them that I was unaware when I rented that returns closes at 8:00 p.m., they did not inform me of that, and I would not be in town the following day to return the tool. I'm here, you're here, so I'd like to return the tool now please. Finally someone suggested I speak to customer service. Someone stopped me cold in the store and told me I could not be in the store with the tool that had gasoline in it. Again, I was undaunted and continued my way to customer service. At which time the customer service clerk told me that I was not allowed in the store with a tool containing gasoline, and that rental return was closed and would open the following day. I started my explanation again that I would not be in town and I just wanted to leave the tool when finally a manager came over. Told me he would gladly accept the return and process it. I was shocked. It was polite but no one apologized for the multiple times that they incorrectly told me to come back the next day. Then during the return processing I found out that they charged me an additional $7 for tool insurance which I did not agree to. At no time did anyone disclose that they were adding to the bill. I politely suggested they remove it from the bill and after some mumbles and grumbles it was done. Overall I'm quite happy with home Depot as a whole, but this rental experience was ludacris. Not understanding how to use the tool, not knowing where the basic parts of the tool were, and then the whole return experience with everyone telling me to come back the next day which was ridiculous earns them 2 stars and that's...
Read moreCurbside pickup is about convenience. Using the app is another convenience. If both do not work then its a inconvenience. Retailers today have the worst employees who exists for the paycheck and invest as little effort as possible. This behavior and lack of customer service also speaks to leadership. Apparently there are no expectations so customers are not important or a priority. I ordered on line a product. I elected curbside pickup. When I arrived at the store the app would not allow me to indicate the parking space I was in as well as my arrival. After a few minutes fiddling with the app I found the location service was not activated. The app did not indicate this nor did is provide instructions as to how to activate it. After that was accomplished I was able to indicate I was on premise and what parking spot to find me. The person who brough out the product moved like a sloth. Upon inspection of the box, it was opened and the box was a bit worn and very dusty. This is a blatant message of, " we don't give a dam " At least take the initiative to clean up and seal the box before you bring it out to the customer. So I had to go into the store to see if they had another unit or get a refund. The woman that assisted me went to the back to look for another factory boxed unit. While I waited at the order desk employees were eating chips and salsa and ignoring me. Then another customer came in and he was ignored as well. Final analysis, not even an apology. Just a refund and hit the road mentality. I lost an hour of my day, was made to feel I am not a valued customer and I still have to shop for another replacement some where else. Home Depot back in the day had professionals that cared, who were tradesmen and could help you with anything. This generation of employees are disappointing in every aspect of customer engagement. Time to smell the roses is a commercial theme for the retail giant. Not happening because this Home...
