I’ve always loved that we had a market right by our house but as of late I really haven’t loved it. We have spent a lot of money on meat at this location. We are not a huge fan of the new butcher either. He never seems to be behind the counter when we need him but rather talking to people. Every time we purchase any type of meat from soelbergs outside of the butchers area we get sick for some reason. We have had experiences with the woman butcher who was completely clueless to what products that she even sells, which is terrible for sale and business. We asked for the type of steak we had always gotten before and she told us they don’t have that.
Turns out they still do.
This last time was honestly the last straw for us. I had purchased a rack of ribs a day or two before thanksgiving. My boyfriend decided that one wouldn’t be enough so he went to grab more. We grabbed everything we would need for ribs for dinner that night. When he got home he cut both of the ribs open, the one I had bought was in the freezer until yesterday. The one he had bought smelled rotten, so he checked the date and it was use by November 21st. Who is rotating the meat? Anyone? Well. We decided we would just eat the ribs that I had bought and deal with it because he said he got the last ribs. Well, guess what? Also rotten. Also the same expiration date. November 21st. My boyfriend took his receipt and pictures of the ribs and the expiration date. They refunded him for one of the ribs but not the ones I purchased because I didn’t have a receipt. So I’m out money and dinner because whomever is supposed to rotate the meat failed to do their job.
Another time, we had used the new carts which I believe was a huge waste of money on their part… but I had filled up my entire cart… and eventually it got too full to even scan anything else. So I tried checking out and it wouldn’t work because I had food stamps. So I had to go through this huge process to make sure everything I bought was in the cart. I took my cart and a thing to scan to a different cashier who seemed bothered that she had to do anything and said she doesn’t know anything about the carts. Like I’m sorry- neither do I. I’m just doing what I’m told. Just scan it so I can leave please. Then another woman comes over and says yeah they haven’t been working with food stamp cards.. like okay, if you guys knew that they don’t work with food stamp cards then why wouldn’t you make people aware of that before they get the carts??
Not only that, but I wasn’t able to bag all my things s because of this cart madness so I had to bag my groceries while I put them into my car, in the freezing cold AND it double charged me for numerous items.
I cannot wait for Smiths to come so I never have to go to Soelbergs again. They’re always sold out of the Ollie pops that I enjoy. I truly believe they are going to go out of business. They are over priced, and they have a very low selection of items.
I am beyond frustrated that they couldn’t give us a $10 refund for the ribs. I would rather drive to Macey’s than go back...
Read moreThey have lost a customer of 6 years. I was escorted out of the store after full payment because I didn't want a bag for my 3 small items- I simply wanted to carry them out (much like the way I had been carrying them around the store that morning). I have left this store without bagging my items dozens and dozens of times in the past and have never run into an issue (that's usually what a receipt is for, right?). Since I have always done this and there is nothing posted saying that customers MUST have items bagged I turned around when an employee was instructed to start following me and I said "Do not follow me". I did not feel comfortable being followed- I had done nothing wrong. My big issue here is that an employee later told customer service that I "lunged" at the employee behind me, which is absolutely false. After waiting for 3 business days to hear from a manager and get to the bottom of the situation I called in again. Aaron confirmed with me that he had reviewed the video camera footage and that I did not lunge or threaten anybody. I asked if anything is going to be done about an employee making false allegations about customers and he said that I am no longer welcome to shop there since I don't want to follow the bagging policy. I asked if I could talk to corporate or the owners and he responded with a laugh saying "My parents are the owners, buddy". He was never interested in hearing my side of the story anyways- he interrupted me almost immediately during the call saying "I'm too busy with year-end stuff to deal with this!". From where I am sitting the only thing I can do now is to inform others of the way I was treated by multiple staff members, including the manager. Management would rather let their employees be able to make blatant false allegations against customers than to actually deal with employee issues. I have never come across a "must bag" policy at any grocery store I have ever been to in my life, but I am willing to abide by those rules. However, Aaron hasn't even given me the chance to do that by telling me not to shop there anymore. I love supporting local business, but it is clear that they don't want me to support them for...
Read moreAt this point, unless you're crunched for time, just go into Tooele to Lucky's or Macy's if you don't want to support Walmart. This Soelburgs is conveniently located for those of us in between Tooele and everywhere else, but prices aren't competitive enough anymore. The produce quality has suffered as well. (Have gotten two bad watermelons the last two months)
Things used to be only slightly more expensive than in town, which was worth it in gas money, but now they're charging three entire more dollars for HALF the amount of pre-sliced watermelon, AND it was just water, no melon taste in sight. I thought I'd get guaranteed good melon if I blew the extra money on precut and was WRONG :T (You can taste it before you try to sell it!!!!)
I also KNOW based on personal experience in food production that management is penny pinching, because they want to charge you if you want more than two dipping sauce cups at the deli. For a POUND of chicken, you only get four tablespoons of sauce. They've never done this before, I've patronized the place since it OPENED and it didn't try this during any other economic squeezes like COVID. (The sauce cups are about five-ten cents a cup depending on the retailer and bulk size purchased)
I guess I'm back to putting those few dollars back in the gas tank to make it to town for better options AND better deals.
(I do like most of the staff here, though, they're usually really polite and fun to banter with when it's not super busy. And the pharmacy is...
