I’m the person who reads so many reviews and hardly ever writes one. However, you need to know how incredible Katie and Lexy are.
We adopted a puppy back in December of last year. She’s a love but her behaviors were extremely problematic. She was bullying our older dog, not listening, being rude, jumping all over everyone, chewing our couches and taking charge of the house. I was growing frustrated, angry and resentful with no knowledge or patience on how to train her properly. I heard from others and read the reviews on maximum canine. We went for a consultation (met with Jim) and we signed both dogs up on the spot. Our hound was somewhat trained but we felt it was important to enroll him as well so our puppy can learn how to properly behave around him.
Katie trained our puppy for a full 3 weeks of board and train and Lexy had our hound for 2 weeks of board and train. It was hardest on us to be away from them, however the girls kept us connected with video and pics. Incorporated into board and train are training sessions where we as a family went to learn what they have been taught. The kids and hubby caught on quick, for me not so much, they have so much patience with me. Katie called us to discuss incorporating an e collar for our puppy. We were very skeptical as we didn’t want our puppy’s behavior to change. Katie explained when trained properly they don’t change their personality and she was right!! Our puppy is still her happy self and now with some manners.
It’s been close to a week since they have been back home with us. They are like different dogs (so much more responsive and well behaved) yet with the same beautiful personalities. I’ve had a few moments where I felt I couldn’t do what they learned but Katie has been awesome still talking me through and giving me advice and help. She still is checking in with us and letting me know she is there if I need. We all have both learned so much and shocking to us even our hound (8 years old) learned not to pull on a leash and stopped barking like crazy when we would walk him, now it’s actually enjoyable. Like I mentioned, I’m still learning but I’m learning with them together.
I know it’s an extremely expensive investment. It really is a small fortune however the difference that we have seen in just a small amount of time makes it so worth it!! It has made the time we have with them enjoyable and not frustrating or stressful. It’s the best investment we made for our family. I highly recommend it! Katie and Lexy were thorough, kind, patient, attentive, very great teachers with the ability to encourage not discourage when correcting.
Katie and Lexy, from the bottom of our hearts 💙🩷 THANK...
Read moreIf you’re thinking about giving Maximum K9 a call, this is your sign to do it.
I need to begin by saying that Max K9 quite literally saved my relationship with my dog. When I adopted Oakley back in December of 2020, I was told he had been adopted once before and returned. Given the immediate bond him and I had at the shelter, I knew he was the one and I was determined to do whatever it took to make him the best version of himself. Oakley quickly became aggressive when I brought him home. It wasn’t until August of 2021 that I found Maximum K9 and started private trainings with Sherry who was fantastic!! She really laid the foundations for me and Oakley and he came a very long way from when I first adopted him.
Fast forward a few months post-training, Oakley grew into new behaviors… ones that were far worse. His behaviors included going absolutely bonkers over squirrels (or anything small that moved), being so excited that he couldn’t contain himself and would just run into and jump onto people when they came in the door, ignoring commands in the backyard, pulling on leash, etc. The squirrel issue got to the point where I was afraid to take Oakley on walks because he had taken me and my mom, who watches him when I am at work, down several times and seriously hurt us. I was angry, I was frustrated and I was sad. I decided to give Max K9 another call and that’s when they suggested a 3 week board and train.
KATIE was his trainer and I don’t have enough words to describe just how amazing she is. She took the time to understand my concerns and she empathized with me. She explained every behavior, why it was happening, what to expect, and exactly how she was going about correcting the behaviors. She sent me videos and pictures of my happy boy learning along the way, as well as explanations of what she was working on and how she was working on it. She was patient and answered all my questions, some that I definitely asked way more than once, and she really paid attention to Oakley (noticing hot spots forming and treating it, moving him to a quiet room, etc). From the videos and the interactions I saw of her with him, you can clearly see how much she truly cared for Oakley and all of her dogs and her job. Oakley came home a new dog (with the same goofy personality). I can now confidently take him on nice walks without fear that he’s going to hurt me if he sees a squirrel. Not only has his obedience greatly improved, but my relationship with him has already improved as well. I just signed up for our first Lifetime class for this upcoming Monday and I am excited to continue learning, training and bonding with Oakley. THANK YOU MAX K9 and all your...
Read moreWe found maximum through google search and reviews, and thank goodness we did! We rescued a 2 and half year old pit mix in May, great dog overall however with moderate to severe dog reactivity on leash, which at times was also directed at people depending on the situation (sometimes bikers, sometimes men more than women). Tried online obedience training, tried e collar off Amazon- after 4 months there really wasn't any change and every single walk became super stressful if we saw another dog within 30-50 feet (barking, pulling, not following any of our commands). We brought him to maximum for the eval after 4 months and they recommended a 4 week board and train for him. It definitely was pricey however we can say fully worth it and we do not regret the investment at all (they also were not pushy at all, answered many questions for us before we even booked). First of all our trainer Rosemarie was really amazing. We were provided multiple updates through pictures and videos every other day, and always could easily get in contact with her if needed. When we started doing our in person trainings, she was extremely kind and helped us train our dog in a really respectful way (she didn't make us feel dumb or incompetent at all). She was so patient with our thousands of questions, and also really created a great bond with our dog. The other staff at maximum that we have met so far also have been very friendly and accommodating. Second, we have definitely seen a great change in his reactivity on the leash. We were trained to use the cues / commands he learned with Rosemarie. We also bought the e collar they suggested (more expensive but instead of just few different settings it goes from 0-100, our dog did not respond well to the other shock collar, this one he responds to) and learned how to use that to correct his reactivity. Now we can go on walks and know we have the tools to help him through stressful situations, he also is way better at doing a proper heel, has shown 0 reactivity to any people. We wouldn't say his reactivity has totally disappeared and he doesn't even look at other dogs- but that's honestly an extremely hard expectation to have. However now we have a dog who really listens to us and looks to us to help him through a tough situation. He also was able to attend lifetime classes and behave really well- that was something we never ever thought he would be able to do. Overall we 100% recommend this place, we are going to keep bringing our dog here for lifetime group classes, and it was also really nice to know our dog was in the hands of trainers and staff who really loved him. Thank you so much...
