Culpers 1778 in East Setauket — where rich Long Island history meets a seriously elevated dining scene. A stunning space with a moody bar + plush seating, an incredible menu (hello filet mignon, seared scallops, short rib pappardelle, grilled branzino) and sides like truffle mac & cheese + cabernet braised mushrooms. Finish with the Bananas Foster Pound Cake — trust me. Perfect for a date night, girls’ night, or any time you want dinner that feels like an experience. 📍 East Setauket, NY 🍽️ Culpers 1778 Follow me for more Long Island dining finds & local gems you’ll love.

Was super excited to have a new restaurant close by however we were very disappointed. Seated right next to the bar which was very loud and hard to have a conversation. Patrons dressed in shorts, flip flops and hats…was expecting a little more upscale given the menu prices. Service friendly but on the slow side with the exception in constantly clearing our table of clean utensils and dishes. Waitress gave us clean plates for appetizers and as she walked away someone else cleared it. This happened twice. Very disappointed in the food. Steaks under cooked to order and lobster rubbery with no taste. Even the butter was tasteless. My favorite dish was the Brussels sprouts. Unfortunately as of now we will not be back Adding Edit: my point in mentioning dress code is that if I wanted to go to a local bar I would and pay local bar prices. Maybe as an establishment revisit your prices if that’s what you intend to be. Given the cost of dining here I would expect a more upscale dining experience this was not that.

Culpers was fantastic! I loved everything start to finish. Our server Laura was professional, yet sweet and knowledgeable. The chicken dish full of flavor, and paired with a refreshing cauliflower puree. The apple dessert we tried was made in house, and better than most bakeries we’ve had across the world. I can’t wait to come back!

Was excited to have a new steakhouse nearby for special occasions etc. Brought my husband there for his birthday which i noted on my reservation. (we went begining/mid of august and i wasnt sure if i wanted to review) . No note of happy birthday or anything written on our dessert or anything. Unfortunately we were placed in their dining room which clearly was unfinished. Almost like they ran out of money..... Fabric unfinished on the walls old holes that should have been spackled...Very disconnected from the bar and bar back room which have seemingly more finished and look nice. The wait service was lovely and attentive. The brussel sprouts we ordered as our side was delicious. As was the pork belly app. The steak we did the porterhouse for 2 was a beautiful cut of meat but only seemed to be seasoned with flaked salt - a lot of it. We also ordered it Rare and came pre sliced so unfortunately cooled quickly before our first bite. Once I removed some of the salt it was better. Basic review is they shouldnt have opened the dining room if it wasnt finished. Spending $135 for a steak the room should match. Not sure if we will be back to give it another opportunity, or if this is just new restaurant bumps...

We had a wonderful evening here and can’t wait to come back.

The front dining area is warm and stylish, while the back feels a bit plain by comparison. Next time we’ll definitely request a table up front to soak in the full atmosphere.

Cocktails were top-notch. My husband loved the Culper, and my Clothesline was just as impressive—balanced, creative, and beautifully presented.

Don’t miss the charred Brussels sprouts; they were perfectly crisp with great flavor!

I ordered the filet mignon with cowboy butter (well-done). Most of it hit the mark—tender, flavorful, and well-seasoned—though one side was closer to medium. Still, I’d happily order it again. My husband’s dry-aged steak was cooked just right and packed with flavor. Asparagus was also spot-on.

The only letdowns were the mashed potatoes and a dessert that didn’t quite stand out.

Overall excellent service, memorable cocktails, and standout steaks. I’ll...
