Like another poster said, I truly don't like writing negative reviews, and like them, my family and I legitimately can't believe the reviews posted, and are beginning to wonder if they are friends/family. I am posting this for visibility.
I will get the positive out of the way: one of the nicest decor's in a restaurant I have seen in quite a while. The inside of the place is gorgeous. The ceilings and walls have beautiful decor, lights are warm and gorgeous. If you look around inside it feels nice to be in such a well designed place.
Onto the bad. The food is simply not good. to be more specific, almost all the food we had was dry. The carne asada tacos had very dry meat in small strips. The chicken tacos had very small sliced chicken which was dry. The pork tacos also tasted dry. The fish tacos, while not dry, was served as a huge chunk of fish, barely fried at all, encompassing the entirety of the taco. If you have eaten fish tacos anywhere on the planet, you know most places serve it in smaller strips, and they are fried to give a nice texture.
While eating these tacos it reminded me of how chain Mexican fast food places keep all their meat in containers, chopped in very small pieces, then served in an assembly line. The only difference was that those places have better cooked meat. It almost seems like the meat is chopped into smaller pieces and cooked afterwards, that's how dry it is. The seasoning and sauces don't really make up for the dryness either. You would think dumping sauce on dry meat would kind of make you forget about it being dry, but none of the sauces were particularly good.
The place is gorgeous inside, but i cannot personally give an even ok rating if all the food tasted bad. All of us simultaneously agreed it was the worst restaurant food wise we have been to maybe ever? The owner should go to Besito, get take out, bring it back and it eat it side by side with what their chef is making. Maybe then they will see how lacking it really is. Complete opposite ends of...
Read moreWow wow wow Hands down the best Mexican food spot around. Found out that the owners and most of the staff are Colombian but there is Mexican chefs on deck. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was very cozy and welcoming. They have 2 floors and are creating an outdoor earing area aswell. Very homey inside. The music was authentic and hit the vibe button. The bar area is separated with swings for chairs. The tables are very spacious. The portions where perfect. The presentation was phenomenal. Our server (Roberto) was very articulate and was able to suggest items off the menu that met our expectation. The ambiance was of a romantic one. The bathrooms where cleaned and smelled cleaned. The drink that I got was called "Volcaan" and it not only looks amazing but taste spectacular. The guacamole was to die for. The chips and salsa that they served was incredible. Never had a salsa taste like that before. The food again was soo damn good. I actually got a steak the way I liked cooked for the first time in years going out and always asking for it "well done" because it always comes out medium I didn't expect it to come out well done and "BOOM" well done came to the table and I finished every bit of it. My wife got some taco roll ups that hit every taste bud. The rice and beans kicked butt. The sauces all where very tasty and had tons of flavor. The water had lemon and cucumber in it so it was beyond refreshing. Everything taste fresh and cooked on the spot. Nothing tasted like it came out of a box or storage bag. There's nothing negative to say about this place. Truly a "diamond in the rough". We will definitely be returning for a future "Mexican" date. Overall I would say give this place a try if you truly want to taste real authentic dishes that you wished where at every other spot you like. Thank you for the hospitality and meal suggestions. Look forward...
Read moreWell we have been to lxchel at least a half dozen times since they opened. We loved it the first few times we went but they have been very inconsistent with food drinks & service. This last Saturday will be the last time for a while, we were seated quickly then we waited at least 20 minutes pefore a server introduced himself. We ordered our drinks I had a coke, wife had wine! why no margaritas you may ask? Well the last time we had two of the same margaritas and they both tasted totally different and @$17.00 (was $14 a one time) it should be on the money but nope. I have had the chicken mole when they first opened and it was perfect! Nice size and complex flavors the last 2Xs it tasted like Hersheys chocolate really sweet and chocolatey was $24 now $30 and no bueno! What really sealed the deal was the $30 dollar appetizers that shouldn't have left kitchen we have had this once or twice before (Aguachile Tulum ) and it was a plate of onions with 3 over cooked (ceviche) shrimp with extremely over cooked baby scallops so over cooked they looked like peanuts and with a half a slice of avocado on top! No Bueno sent it back and didn't look back! The wife nad the $38 dollar shrimp dish and it was ok ! 1 had the tacos and at $25 for they should be perfect but nope the fish taco is good but the Al Pastor is dry with no sauces and one little piece of pineapple and no rice & beans for the table (had to ask) and was enough for one person maybe ! we skipped desert got the check and bolted! I think their price points are really off, every entree is in the high $30s to high $40s the quality and service don't justify the hefty bill at the end of the night. I was kinda of hoping that we found our new Besito (haven't been in a few years)but it's not to be it looks like we have to go to Huntington for decent Mexican food and believe it or not it's way cheaper!...
