I cannot give a high enough recommendation for Hafner’s Landscaping team based on our repeat experiences over the past year and a half.
We met with Dan Metz in 2017 at our home to provide an estimate for landscaping our backyard. He listened to our goals, reviewed my many questions, design ideas, and measured our yard. Within a week he invited us to the nursery to review his design and they walked us around to see the plants and trees in person so we could really visualize the final project. The amount and variety of plants and trees combined with the design was by far the best, not to mention the experience, compared to four other vendors. We paid our deposit and got on the schedule as quickly as possible. The installation went smoothly and quickly and it looks even better in person. We love the finished design!
The following spring, we hired them for pruning and spring “clean up.” They came quickly and worked efficiently to get our landscaping in great shape for the season. At that time, they noticed that a few of our shrubs did not make it, which they said were under warranty through the nursery. Without any issue, they came to replace them within a week or so.
We have unfortunately had a situation this summer which required some plants be transplanted. Dan went ABOVE AND BEYOND in helping us. Dan, Doug and the office team have been patient and kind and more than helpful while making the best of a pretty crummy situation. Their support and dedication to help us, especially during such a BUSY season, definitely exceeded our expectations and we are so grateful.
Throughout our entire experience, Dan, Doug and EVERYONE including the installation crew have been wonderful. They are a fantastic team of experienced professionals and we HIGHLY recommend them.

Read moreI posted several weeks ago about bulk top soil that I purchased. I was disappointed about the amount of debris in it. I screened it to remove same. Mr. Hafner made a generous offer of 5 free bags of premium top soil at no charge to ease my pain. I picked it up. I have used it previously. That time I poured it from bag onto lawn and raked. I was disappointed then with all of the debris in it. This year, while crawling around pulling weeds I notice what looked like peat moss in the lawn, at the base of the grass blades on top of the soil. I screened two of the bags that I just got. Pictures are attached. The bucket is from screening one bag. No stones, but, as advertised, organic debris, like sticks, and peat moss. Some of the peat moss is almost in almost a web form. I was glad it screened out. The soil itself seems perfect to grow new grass; it is light and airy and I do not think it will pack down like bulk soil does (which I expected). Also I was at a big box store and looked at closeout, premium top soil on close out. Some of the bags were ripped. Their soil was awful, lots of clay in it. Chuck's is much better. Now I know that for me to be happy with top soil I have to screen it. You may be perfectly happy without doing so. I am glad that Chuck Hafners is close by. I will continue to be a regular customer; the vegetables this summer were awesome, and often priced well below the local grocery stores.
THIS IS AN UPDATE TO THE REVIEW I POSTED ABOUT A YEAR AGO. As I said then, I continue to be a customer at Hafners. Since I posted that review Hafners has, I believe, a new supplier for garden soil. For sure the packaging is different. I bought some of the newer product. It is virtually free of rocks and has only the smallest amount of wood bits. It is a much, much...

Stepping onto the grounds of Chuck Hafner’s Farmers Market feels a little like walking into a living postcard—a place where the scent of fresh blooms mingles with the earthy promise of the season, and every corner whispers, stay awhile.
From the moment you arrive, you're greeted by an endless selection of plants—rows upon rows of vibrant perennials, cheerful annuals, lush hanging baskets, and vegetables just waiting to be tucked into backyard gardens. Whether you're a seasoned green thumb or just learning the joy of nurturing something from the soil, the variety here is nothing short of inspiring. I found myself drifting between hydrangeas and succulents, marveling at the sheer abundance and care behind each display.
But it’s more than just the plants. The grounds themselves are beautifully maintained, with wide pathways, cozy benches, and scenic nooks that make it feel less like a garden center and more like an experience. There’s a rhythm to the space—peaceful yet alive and blooming with possibilities.
What truly captured my heart, though, was the enchanting decor sprinkled throughout the market. Rustic garden statues, whimsical wind chimes, curated planters, and thoughtfully styled displays turn every visit into a treasure hunt.
Chuck Hafner’s isn’t just a place to buy plants—it’s a place to stroll, to gather ideas, and to reconnect with the slower, simpler joys of nature. Whether you're filling your trunk with tomato starts or just walking the grounds with a coffee in hand, you’ll leave feeling a little lighter, a little more inspired, and perhaps just a bit enchanted.
A Central New York treasure that’s always worth the visit—rain or shine, season...
