Rented a couple chicks. I did not think it was possible to rent but luckily the owner was there and allowed it. I promised to him Id have it back. I wanted to rent 1 but he said that it needed more chicks or else they would get stressed and die. So I rented like 5 chicks, plus the heating light, water, food, the box and that was about 60. It was a surprise for my cousin because of a birthday and she loves chickens.
I had it for like 6 hours and came back to the store. He never rented chicks to anyone but he was glad that the chickens were save and discounted me some of the money he charged me. He also threw a free carton of eggs to enjoy.
Overall, really nice guy, thankfully he allowed me to have the moment to make someone's day special. will definitely be back, potentially own some chickens in the future. I would recommend any animal lover to check this place out. Small, but it has its charm and it has everything you need to own a chicken. I also saw some rare chickens, so definitely a place to check out for chicken lovers.
Please note! he allowed me to rent the chickens since I lived near, your experience may vary if you are trying to rent. Also, they are not in the market of renting pets so keep...
Read moreMy wife and I came here looking for our first batch of chicks. The owner (Alex) took his time to discuss all aspects of first time ownership and gave us a wealth of information we never ran across on the web. You can see the passion for his work when you talk to him. They have a nice variety of chicks that produce many different colored eggs. In addition, if you want to support a small business, they have everything you need to get started and further. Sure you might be able to get some things a bit cheaper at a big box store, but you will never get this level of advise and knowledge. I'll be sure to come back for high quality feed and bedding for the next stage of my chicks lives. If you are looking for older chicks (4-5 months) they have those also (just basic varieties). If you live in the lower Hudson valley and want to start raising chickens, you have to give this place a try. It was about a 40 min drive for us, but it was well worth it. Just make sure you call before you go to ensure they have chicks available. ...
Read morePick a Chic was top notch! I previously had a flock that unfortunately perished from predators last fall so decided to restart my chicken journey this spring and came across pick a chick. I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival with a warm welcome from the owner and his wife tending diligently to their baby chics. He was so knowledgeable on their nutrition and where I maybe went wrong the first go around. We picked out 10 chicks from their huge selection of exotic breeds, each with ample information on their potential egg production (timing, size, color). We spent almost 2 hours discussing directions and how to properly grow our flock to their fullest potential. I have nothing but good things to say about this establishment and would recommend anyone who’s starting their chicken journey, or for supplies and knowledge! Clean, organized, and...
