Unfortunately our experience at Spruce Home Goods was not a good one. I followed the store on IG and was very excited to finally visit. I always support local businesses and had every intention of doing so here, however, I did not because of my family's experience. We were in the store for about six minutes today when someone who worked there, perhaps the shop owner requested to know if we needed help finding anything in an annoyed tone of voice. My husband stated we were still looking around, to which the store associate/perhaps owner stated, once again in an annoyed tone of voice, "if you're not getting anything, we have a line of people waiting to get in." There was no line, there was no one waiting to get into the store. We didn't know what the issue was. We had our baby with us, we were looking at some of the plush toys and a book which we were contemplating purchasing. Our experience left us wondering if this shop does not want families supporting their business, or people of color,or...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm disappointed to leave this review, especially after being a loyal customer for 7 years, since 2018 when the store opened. Our family has always enjoyed shopping at this store during our summer visits to Catskill, NY. However, our most recent experience was a letdown.
When my 5-year-old grandson picked up a stuffed animal, excited about a promise we'd made to him, the owner walked from behind the counter and abruptly took it from his hands without acknowledging us adults. The manner was stern and unwelcoming. My daughters, husbands and I felt disrespected, and we decided to leave without making a purchase.
As we were leaving, the owner followed us to the door, and a brief exchange made it clear that our long-standing customer relationship didn't matter in that moment. It's unfortunate that a business we've supported for so long could handle a situation with a child so poorly. The encounter left a bad taste, and it's clear ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe foodstuff curation here is incredibly thoughtful. Everything they sell is from the best producers. I think people might assume that the store is a rip off, since itās not cheap, however, itās simply that the products they sell are top-notch. An example of this is their dumplings. A friend recommended that we try them - the store sources them from a restaurant in NYC. There was some sticker shock when I realized the $25 price, however, they were worth every penny and, with further research, the restaurant sells them frozen for takeaway at the exact same price. The store isnāt for everyone but, if you appreciate really good food and are willing to pay for the best quality, then donāt hesitate to shop here. I would assume the home goods selection is the same. We just havenāt had the need to purchase anything for our...
