This gym is not it. Extremely rude staff with policy ambiguity/inconsistency. I have been to multiple gyms in my life, I go 5-6 times a week. I have to say this is one of the worst gyms ever. I was there for basketball but I did inspect the equipment. In terms of fees, here’s the insane estimated breakdown. $5 Enrollment Fee (Deal varies month to month) $75 Annual Fee (Charged 15 days after enrolled) $50 Monthly Fee $700 Yearly (INSANE price for what it is) Gym equipment, it’s okay. a couple of them are damaged. Gym has LIMITED space. A lot of things are tight within the gym and some things are difficult to use because there’s just not enough space. Regardless, for my situation specifically, I was there that day to play some basketball for the 1 day I was in town. I arrived there a hour before closing. My significant other (has a membership) and a friend of ours (no membership, using trial) are at the basketball court playing. They don’t offer guest passes as a starter, which is a bit of a bummer but it’s fine because luckily they do hand 1 day free trials. So for the one hour I was there, I accepted the trial to spend time on my anniversary with my significant other at her gym a little bit. They called me prior to making the trip about the trial etc. not once did they mention that not everything is included in the trial. I arrived there 5PM after a LONG TRIP, 1hr before closing with a basketball in my hand since I knew there was a court. As soon as I started speaking with the employee about free trial, she immediately bought up basketball courts are not accessible to me in a very rude tone saying I must pay $30. I proceeded to explain this wasn’t explained to me on the phone at all. I ended up going to the court where my significant other was to just sit on the sideline for 1 hour because I wasn’t paying the $30 for that single hour before closing. I met people there who were also on the trial accessing the court who said they did not have that issue to the staff member they spoke with. Clearly, the staff here are unclear about their own rules and regulations among themselves. It is not enforced, I was extremely polite and kind the entire time. The woman at the front did not seem to care at all, I understand you are doing your job, but if you’re going to give people the pass, apply the rule to equally in a formal manner. I was there for 1 day, 1 HOUR, made a long trip to just sit on the side because things were not clear. The employee wasn’t even understanding or kind enough to give me the last hour. Avoid this gym for all reasons, the cost is high, employees are rude, equipment is extremely average, and the spacing is bad. Find yourself a better location, I promise you there are many amazing gyms with motivational people who will 100% push you...
Read moreAfter today my membership will be canceled. I used to love this location but over the last 6 months things have just been mediocre at best. Machines broken, the baby sitting club not allowing kids to have their snacks anymore among other things that were not like this when I first joined almost 2 yrs ago! And this review is in no way directed to the wonderful people who actually work at the babysitting club, they are awesome, especially Jordan and this other lovely young Latina woman who always greets my child any time she sees him at the front desk. Today I was approached by this nasty unprofessional woman named Trish ( I spoke to her once before when I inquired about my membership over the phone and she was nasty then too simply bc I was actually asking questions about my membership but I just took it as someone having a bad day) last night I was walking down to the parking after dropping off my child at " babysitting " to get something from my car before going right back to do my work out, she stopped me as I was walking back after my workout in the middle of the floor in front of the staff/ main entrance and stated rudely after pointing me out in front of everyone saying " excuse me excuse me!" members are not allowed to leave at any point. I was completely confused considering I've been attending there for almost 2 yrs and I'm very familiar w the staff, they all call my child by his name whenever we walk in .... I don't know who this woman is but I've seen her be rude to others as well. I said ok is that new bc I've had plenty of conversations since being a member of how babysitting works and I've never heard of this not being able to go downstairs to my car to grab something. Her response was " well then you should read the contract" Then I called after I left and politely asked to speak to vinny the manager who I've interacted w plenty of times and she picked up the phone and blatantly said " oh I just spoke to you, yea vinny won't be getting back to you but you can call back tomorrow and so and so can explain our policies to you or I can just cancel your membership right now “( with an attitude ) I responded with " please have some one from management call me and thank you so much for offering to cancel my membership simply bc I politely requested to speak with someone " her response " are you sure I can't just cancel your membership now??" And then proceeded to hang up on me while I was still speaking... not professional or customer friendly. This establishment does not deserve my hard earned money or loyalty... thanks to trish you just lost a loyal customer...
Read moreUpdate April, 2021: Last year Town Sports International was sold and is under new management. Dobbs Ferry reopened in September 2020, approximately six months after Covid 19 was forced to shut down most businesses. I was told that the towel service was suspended because the vendor did not comply with Covid standards. I wish I knew if that service will be reinstated. Overall the gym is very clean. The cleaning staff is cleaning non-stop as I can see. The locker rooms are in decent shape with a limited number of lockers available. That is of course to keep - yes, what else -social distance. The same applies to some machines which are taped off. I was told that 130 persons were allowed at any given time on the floor back in January. So far it has not been crowded. The max. number I have experienced was 50. Showers are open between 8-12p and 4-8p. The policy of using the showers is explained differently, dependent on who you ask. The outer four of the six shower stalls (male locker room) do not have a sign of do-not-use. The Sauna and pool remain closed (the pool is drained). Hairdryers are not available anymore. Soap, shower gel, conditioner, and lotion remain available as well as a hand dryer, facial tissue, paper towels. When you enter the club you take your temperature yourself (contactless). The front desk asks about any symptoms and check-in and out, so the club has a count of people at any time to comply with NY State regulations.
Old review: Club has good amount of equipment. Towel service is a plus. Showers recently have shown a temperature control problem. The sauna requires a long term cleaning on its floor. I wish battery operated device would be banned in the sauna as they may explode under high temperatures.
Nov 2022: Needs towel service and paper towels or wipes. January 2023: Black mold mentioned to management, no change in two weeks.
June 2023: Dobbs ferry, the same three elliptical machines 20-22 keep failing. Mildew and possibly mold at the same spots in the showers. Reminding staff makes no difference. Hair dryers fail and disappear.
July 2023: I told manager again to check the male showers for black mildew. It seems to make no impact. If you do not want to be disgusted, do not move the three racked bottles in the showers. The same machine keep being broken (never repaired properly in at least 3+ years: Cardio #20-22 e.g. For charging 80% more than 24h fitness, go figure.
October 2023: still mildew and gunk in the shower No...
