Myself and 2 buddies decided to try kayaking and fishing for the first time and we opted to go with Empire given the nice location in Long Beach and the very reasonable pricing.
Very cool, relaxed environment with friendly, knowledgeable and willing to please staff that really cared about our kayak experience.
They were extremely accommodating in securing 3 kayaks with flush mount fishing rod holders and they even provided advice as to where to fish for the most action and fun.
Staff offered a brief tutorial on kayak paddling and safety and they pointed out key landmarks to ensure we could return with ease in the event we were overly adventurous.
The kayaks, paddles and life vests were in excellent condition, so we felt safe and confident that we were on reliable gear that would safely take us on our adventure.
After an afternoon of fishing and paddling, we wanted to come in for some lunch and asked if they would hold our kayaks off to the side ( with our gear ) to allow for a brief lunch break without switching to new boats and reloading our gear, the staff was completely accommodating in storing our yaks on the side to ensure we would have a quick return to the water after lunch.
Upon returning for the day, the staff was genuine in checking that our day was fun filled and exciting...they really seemed to care about our experience and we were not "just another rental fee".
This will now become my "go to" place for kayak rentals and easily a 5 star experience, from location, gear, staff and...

This kayak shop is awesome. They have by far the best fleet of kayaks for rentals that I've seen in Long Island, with quality models that you can try. Gabriel and the other lady, whose name I unfortunately forgot, were so friendly and informative. These people are kayak enthusiasts, not true salesmen. Yes, they run and operate a kayak shop, but they're kayakers themselves and they love talking boats, gear, gear and experiences. I'm newer to kayaking, but I'm learning fast. I'm absolutely going to take lessons here at Empire and really enjoyed speaking to Gabriel. Again, she's extremely friendly, but she knows her stuff, and is full of knowledge waiting to be shared. I told her she was like the North Star guiding me through uncharted waters.
If you want to learn about kayaks/kayaking/kayak gear, stop by this shop. I really think you'll be happy you did. If you want to rent a kayak, stop by here, they have by far the best kayak fleet, along with good rates, and you will have a great time.
Thank you for your hospitality, patience, and teachings! I had a great time speaking with and learning from you both!...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I went to Empire Kayaks for the first time for just a brochure and to look. What I found out was that Gabrielle and Michael are just amazing people. They both took the time to show me and answer all the questions that I was able to drum up, I'll probably have a lot more. These people know how to run a business, they work hard for you to get you into the right kayak. They are both truly professionals. Can't wait to get back there and give them my decision. Empire has all the right accessories to fine tune your purchase. Stop by, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Have fun and be safe on the water.
Had to mention that I did go back and purchased the Revolution 13. This is truly the best kayak for me at this time. This past summer I took it to so many places and had such a terrific time. Looking forward to this coming spring and doing some cruising, exploring, fishing, and exercising all at the same time. What wonderful days on the water, peacefull and quiet....
