A Taberna — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

I would like to thank the staff for being accommodating. I have been to this establishment multiple time, and every time I come they treat me with respect and dignity. I went for the Superbowl to eat and watch the game at the bar. Frank remembered that I do not drink alcohol from the last time that I came to the restaurant. Frank had mentioned that he was working on some non-alcoholic drinks for people like me who chose not to drink. Frank kept his promise. His non-alcoholic Grapefruit Drink was delicious, he also had a nice lemon/cinnamon drink that made me want more. The food was also delicious, they had these good wings they whipped up for the Superbowl that was nice. Every time i visit, their food is always well cooked and seasoned to perfection. The fact that these guys always have something to make a customer feel good, makes me keep coming back. Thank you Frank, and thank you to all the staff. We had dinner there on a Saturday night. The restaurant is inviting and the atmosphere is warm, casual and comfortable. No pretense at all. The food is delicious. I had the halibut special with risotto. The fish was extremely well cook, flaky, moist delicious. The risotto had cheese and peas and was perfectly cooked as well, al-dente rice, creamy cheesy, well seasoned. Others at our table had French Onion soup (delicious), Skirt Steak with mushrooms (tender and delicious), Swordfish (very good) and shrimp appetizer (the sauce was amazing). The portions are generous but not overwhelmingly large. For dessert we had flan, which was perfect. It was baked just long enough to give the custard a silky finish and wonderful mouth feel. Cozy and quality. Those are the 2 words that come to mind when describing this place. Cozy bc it's on the smaller side, but as a large party of 10 we did not mind that. There were 4 other patrons in the facility while we were there and staff did a great job social-distancing us from them. The word quality bc the service was exceptional. The owner/manager there was friendly and took some time to speak with us at the beginning and during our visit there. Made us feel at home. The waiter was exceptional, very attentive and was very helpful, no attitude, no job was too small for him which is always much appreciated. Great quality was also for the food. Fresh and delicious!! The paella was very tasty and well-made. Seriously no complaints here and we would love to come back when we need a paella fix soon. Very hard to find on Long Island. 4 stars...
