North Shore Farms — Local services in Town of Hempstead

Went to the farm for some long island honey. Upon walking in there it was a Market with fresh produce You could feel the texture and smell the herbs it wasn't packed so much so that you couldn't. Prices marked Clearly staff friendly and Knowledgeable of their area. Something to think about as I Have found out Much of the fruit and vegetables are imported.Some are from the USA But both Groups represent the Produce . Have a question who better to ask than the person who is so familiar with it as growing in the area . Onward to the Fish if you are familiar with fish then you understand what to look for the eyes the color the clarity the odor the cleanliness of texture no slime or slippery substance the fish has been cleaned especially if sliced lobster in tanks Ask how long they have been there and if they were stored and how long Lobsters are self injesting if long time ask to crack a claw see if the meat is proportioned to size if its small in proportion its been there a while. The store I Went to had no problem answering. and fresh. Meat department very good selections Fresh and aged many prepared and marinated most times I Stray from that selection but since I Didn't try that or those items I Wont say but they did look appealing As stated before in other reviews their selection of breads cakes cookies and so on was Excellent Kept well protected glass enclosed and looked neat and clean THE Staff at the bakery very knowledgeable and quick to assist Bought different breads to taste at home Very Pleased.Yes they do have bagels but very few left Tells Me one thing if they are off the shelf they have to be Good since the bagel shops are everywhere. The PRICES ARE FAIR AND SOME BETTER THAN OTHER STORES VERY PLEASED THEY HAVE INDEED GOT A NEW CUSTOMER. AHH...

This store I regard as a specialty food store with a great selection of fresh fruits & veggies with a separate organic area , then a great fish counter with what I have found as very fresh fish. They have lots of specialty items throughout the store that you may not find elsewhere , huge selection of fresh olives nuts cheeses really good canned tomatoes if you want to make your own sauces, large choice of pastas bakery bread section , and prepared foods. There are regular groceries but I do not go there for my regular items like paper products can do better elsewhere price wise and I haven’t been too thrilled with their meat selection I have found the prepackaged meats close to expiring so I don’t get my meats there, but they do have a butcher for steaks and such that looks amazing we just don’t eat beef. They have a pretty wide selection of prepared meals as well. Worth a visit . I shop in many stores for food never found a store that meets all my needs. This one I go to regularly. Plus if your store is out of something it’s possible you will find it here very well stocked. Watch out aidles are narrow and they seem to stack glass filled items in high stacks near the shelves I wouldn’t bring a child there walking around honestly I cannot recall seeing kids there come to think of it....

Great, conveniently located store that has many good choices for party foods. Aisles are tiny and registers can be crowded. As experienced cooks, the prepared foods we have tried, such as chicken parm, lasagna, mac and cheese, turkey and glazed salmon are not what we'd come back for, but there are many great cheeses, dips and chips/crackers to be had. Cakes (some of which appear to be prepackaged) are very good, as are breads. Fresh meats are excellent, and a good variety of premium chicken brands and specialty meats like good chorizo, which can be hard to find, are available. Great selection of dairy, excellent selection of fruits and vegetables, and fresh herbs in bulk rather than in plastic clamshells. Narrow selection but good brands of canned and jarred foods. We haven't had good luck with the seafood here, and while the counter and displays appear to be well-maintained, it is concerning to me that the seafood area really reeks of old fish, no matter when you visit. Department staff are all quite friendly and helpful, it's the checkout staff who we've found to typically be disinterested, less-than-happy people; not the parting shot you want to leave...
