Costello's Ace Hardware of Northport — Local services in Town of Huntington

This store is NOT good for our community. It’s a take it or leave it shop pushing high margin item’s on the largest scale they can squeeze. This place is Definitely the Last place of business’s on my list to buy from . . . Although they have a fair (not moderate) selection of pretty much any homeowner hardware but they also sell Inferior utility tools at astronomically high prices compared to longstanding Real Hardware stores. I surmise that most hand tools are domestic but yard gear is imported from third world countries or low quality vendors. Their metal rake’s are horrible; good rake- poor handle and when you use it for an hour the handle breaks. I bought five for my helpers, two handles broke within minutes and when you bring one back they promptly say that I didn’t buy it there until I produce receipt and customer history and they compare to rakes they sell. They do replace the same only for the handles to break in same position by merely a few strokes. I now have two out of five good rakes and really don’t want to hassle with them anymore so I will go to Kings Park or Greenlawn Hardware for the same. They are also grossly over priced but when I need a brass fitting to remedy a problem they usually have what I need without driving to a plumbing supply 7 miles away. I dread going there, I only go when I’m desperate. Zero support, long lines and a stupid rewards program. Scan a bar code instead of asking us all to give our phone numbers out loud. It’s not like I’m saving any money. I’ve called to ask if something was back in stock and told it was only to get there and them tell me it wasn’t. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I am a huge Karps fan, but the new owner isn’t keeping the vibe or inventory....

I try to support local businesses, but this place isn't worth the effort. The prices are higher than everywhere else unless you have a coupon. The coupons they mail you never can be used because they have exceptions that aren't listed. The checkout lines are long and slow, and the checkers are never helpful. Oh, and it always smells off in there. I'll go anywhere else...
