Gem Trader — Local services in Town of Minoqua

Very knowledgeable. Good pricing. Complete hodge podge of product. Difficult to differentiate items.

Unfortunately, the owner is full assumption. I was a good 20 years younger that the other 5 people in the shop (although I looked 30). After waiting 10 minutes for my turn she reluctantly pulled pieces out of the case for me. In doing so, she felt the need to tell me the items in the case we "quite a bit more". In actuality, it was $40 more. I have worked in the costume jewelry and bridal industry. I have a fair knowledge of gems and metals. After helping explain why the pricing she had was justified to a customer did she change her tune. Dressed in yoga pants and beach cover up without make up (it is a lake town), I was judged as customer with less value. Others were offered layaway and free shipping, allowed to take items with them and pay for them later over the phone. I will not be back to purchase the piece I originally had my eye on because obviously, $400 is too...

My family has been going to gem trader for years. When I started becoming interested in purchasing my own jewelry (at the age of 15) I was shown nothing but respect and was guided and educated on the gems. Since then (I am now 25) I have brought college friends and young adult friends (all my age so no older than 25) to the gem trader and she has assisted them all, never once assuming we weren’t interested or couldn’t afford certain pieces. Additionally, I am rarely dressed in something other than running shorts/ t-shirts when I shop the store, so I am highly confused by the three star review, because as a teenager I was never treated as a “lesser” customer than those older than me.

I would highly recommend the Gem Trader to anyone in the area. Some of my favorite jewelry is from there and she truly has a range of prices so it is affordable...

My fiance walked into the store on a weekday to have my engagement ring appraised. Not knowing they didn't appraise "those type of stones" according to the lady there. He patiently waited while she chatted with two other women assuming she was helping them as customers. Only to finally be snottnly asked if she could help him. Which is then when he stated he was looking to have the ring appraised which she stated in a inconvenienced manner that they dont appraise "those type" of stones there. He walked out. TERRIBLE customer service. Coming from a business owners point of view myself even when i have customers inquiring about services I dont offer i am always more than happy to direct them to the best of my ability. If I could rate 0 stars i would have....
