This past August my family and I temporarily moved back to Port Washington so that I could receive treatment for a cancer diagnosis. Our 3 year old son was enrolled and ready begin school in our new home in Boston, but when we received this unexpected news and decided we needed to be in NY for treatment, we searched for a nursery school to put him in. We visited several schools in and around Manhasset but when we walked into Gan Shalom we knew immediately it was the place for us. The classrooms and facility is beautiful, clean and spacious. We love that the children almost always have time spent outside in one of the playgrounds that they have, or in the garden, and that there is always an exciting program like Super Soccer Stars, Yoga or Movement incorporated into the curriculum each day. Laura, the director, was incredibly understanding of our situation and welcomed us into the community immediately. Morah Stephanie and Morah Gerri created a warm, fun and educational environment in which our son immediately felt comfortable. It made his first school experience and our first time separating easy, all while going through a very unexpected and difficult time in our lives. I cannot thank Laura, Stephanie, Gerri and the Gan Shalom community enough for being so welcoming and loving and for helping us make a very challenging time in our...
Read moreThis school has many accessibility features such as the double doors to enter and exit, no stairs to enter the building, handicap stalls. These features are great for anyone who enters this building. The children and adults that enter this school have every potential to be accessible in this building. The basement (where the children play) is the only issue if an individual with a disability enters the building due to the fact that there are only stairs. If there was an elevator, this would benefit the school in terms of disabilities. The classrooms have wide spaces and everything in the room is low enough for the children to reach. Overall, this school has many features that benefit an individual who has a disability. This school is welcoming to any individual no matter what. Excellent school and...

All of the teachers were warm, nurturing, and truly cared (and continue to care) about my son. The director is very involved and, no matter what came up, she was always very understanding and accommodating. As an educator myself, I appreciate the Reggio Emelia-inspired educational philosophy, where the children are encouraged to learn through inquiry and experience, and natural, more basic toys and experiences are available (love the outdoor...
