I've been a member at this LA Fitness for about a year now & figured it would be helpful to give my feedback. I have been active in both weigh-lifting as well as fitness overall for about 10 years and have had memberships in most all gym in the Queens/Long Island area, including New York Sports Club, Planet Fitness, Blink and 24 Hour fitness. I can say confidently this has been the best gym, in terns of value, equipment, and maintenance of all of the other gyms mentioned. The gym is massive, the size of at least 2 football fields. In the back there is a massive free weight area, filled with over 15 dumbbell benches (and dumbbells at 100 lbs) , probably 5 or more dumbbell sets. There are probably 6 squat/deadlift/barbell stations for power lifters. You have at least 5 flat benches for presses, and a full array of incline/decline benches as well. There are 4 Smith machine stations, a litany of cable stations, a well rounded amount of Hammer Strength stations and plenty of leg press stations. And this is just the back area! Then you will find 30-50 cardio machines, treadmills, steps, bikes, with addtional cardio machines in the second level. A key point here, there is NEVER a wait for a cardio machine, no matter the time of day, and there is also 24 hour access for early birds or night owls. You'll find 4 Aqua Bags (which I use for boxing) and a full functional training area stocked with sleds, tires, and ropes. I see many athletes training here because of the ample space and equipment. You'll find all the machines (most are relatively new) so you always get a preacher curl of pull down machine, which can be a mission at other gyms. To top it off, they have a full schedule of aerobic classes (when I want to switch it up) and a full length pool to cool off when its hot. In the front, you'll find a snack bar with smoothies, energy drinks, snacks and even lunch sized meals. Gyms I've used in the past were OK however I tend to workout after I finish work. The other gyms simply did not have enough equipment at peak times, this made my day longer as I had to wait to use equipment. I hate that. At this gym, this simply ill not happen, no matter the time of day. Secondly, the diverse sets of equipment they have always allow mw to vary my program every few months, this helps me get better results. Third, the value, the gym is priced extremely reasonable compared to the others, in fact I was surprised when I initially was told pricing. I commute from Kew Gardens to this gym. The lockers are perfectly fine to change and grab a quick shower. I have never visited the Sauna nor use the lockers for anything else so I can speak of it further. Overall, I'd rate it 9.2 out of 10! I hope they keep up!

Pick another gym to workout in. If you have to pick LA Fitness, I highly recommend going to another LA Fitness than this one. This gym used to be good. I have been a member at this gym ever since they opened, which was 10+ years. Back then, the staff actually cared about this place. However, now they just care if you sign up. You are nothing more than a membership due. There is practically no cleaning in this gym. All the water fountains either have a strange stain on it or it has a hard water stain on the floor by it. Speaking of the water fountains. most them barely have any pressure or one of the button is missing. The equipment is really old. Most of them have not been changed out since the gym opened and it shows. There is rust all over the machines, weight indicators are missing, selector pins are either missing or not the rights. The pads on some of the machines are breaking. Lastly, the info for the weight machines are either missing or just not there. The free weights section is a joke. There are no realistic dumbbells anywhere. Most of the 15-55 lb dumbbells are missing and whatever is left, are being hogged by the customers. The free weight plates are also missing, all over place or never racked back up. They are thrown about on the floor. Some of them are being used as door stops. I spend half my workout session looking for a proper weight. If a machine breaks, good luck with that. They take forever to fix it. The seated dip machine in the pictures below took 5 weeks to fix because the staff claims they couldn't find the proper cables. Since December of 2018, the staff put up signs everywhere saying they will be remodeling the club 'soon'. It is May 29, 2019 and the most they have done are paint a few pillars and partially wax the floor. One of the racquetball courts has some kind of remodeling materials in it and it has not been touched in almost 2 months. Another sad thing about this is the dedicated training zone. The staff will let anybody come in and train in that zone or remove weights and equipment from it.That zone is meant for personal trainers and their client. If you think I am lying, look at the pictures I posted or if you really don't believe me, go and see for yourself.

Not worth it - Made a membership over the phone after girlfriend signed up. We had a good offer of $34.99/m for access to any LA Fitness in NY State. Izzy signed me up and honestly was amazing to work with - Thanks Izzy!

I visited the LA Fitness after signing up the same day over the phone - and it’s genuinely over crowded, there is garbage cans that are overflowing. Honestly didn’t see the value of paying $34.99/m. So 2 days later on Wednesday 2/28/24 called at 7:19 PM and asked for the sales department and was transferred to Izzy, told him I was not satisfied and he was happy to help and canceled my membership within seconds.

My girlfriend who also signed up at the same time saw I canceled my membership with ease decided to call back and cancel her membership too.

My girlfriend called at exactly 7:27 PM on 2/28/24 (5 mins after I got off and canceled over the phone with Izzy) she asked “Hi, I would like to Cancel my membership” and this guy goes “You can’t cancel your membership over the phone, that is not possible” my girlfriend explains it is possible as she just witnessed me cancel 5 mins prior over the phone he begins to say that is a lie and we are lying. I offer to send the rep a forward of the email cancellation I received - and he begins to become extremely unprofessional and ask “I don’t know what game your playing “ “Don’t ask for the sales department if your trying to cancel your membership” - keep in mind the sales department did cancel my membership and she at no time asked for sales she said I would like to cancel my membership. We asked to speak to Izzy or someone else who can help and he literally lies and says Izzy just walked out and left for the day (which is truly low making his good colleague look bad)

Then worst of all this guy has the nerve to say - he does not need to show respect because we need something from him and sales representatives don’t need to know customer service and he spoke over me many times and funny enough he says this line is recorded and when I tell him I’ll write this google review and complain to the Manager he said do it and when I ask for his name he says James (which I believe is a lie - but if not shame on you James - take this as a learning curve every business needs customers and if you want to be profitable and want customers spending with your business you are hospitable to them)

After a 8 min convo, he hangs up after I ask for a supervisor. I call back at 7:35 PM right after I get hung up on and ask to speak to Izzy (remember the same one that I was told left the building for the day) and was connected immediately. Izzy was able to help my girlfriend cancel her membership too with ease.

I Google this LA Fitness in Lake Success location and find out Oscar is the Sales Manager. After the call with Izzy at 7:41PM I call and ask to speak to Oscar and inform him of this situation and what occurred. He tells me he will look into this.

To the employee who treated me with such disrespect - I would have let this go if you had not said that one line to me:

“Im a sales representative, I don’t need to have customer service - you need something from me” - my friend Sales is the number one profession I’ll tell you you needs the best customer service that is where your potential is to earn . Your people skills can use some help, maybe Oscar can give you some professional development.

Save your money get a Planet Fitness Black Card, but stay away from LA Fitness I don’t think it’s worth the value - however if pool is open 24/5 and you want to go for a swim at 3AM (update: pool is open only at certain times - just avoid all together) but if you must see for yourself then I say check it out with a Trial Pass - which is what I should have done ;...

These reviews are not nearly as critical as they can be. For the last 15 years I have worked out throughout suffolk, nassau, and queens. Everywhere between Planet fitness to equinox. This is the WORST GYM BETWEEN KINGS COUNTY AND SUFFOLK COUNTY. Yes.. the worst, i have worked out at unique, retro, college facilities, planet fitness, mom and pops, 24 hour fitness.. you name it. It’s marketed as a “signature series” to attract volume from queens, and greater nassau. when in actuality, a third LA fitness is needed in this area. Everything from the dumbell section, the gym cleanliness, the gym culture/etiquette, the machine upkeep and maintainence is the worst I have ever experienced. Unless you just want a cardio equipment.. your workout quality will likely be better elsewhere.

You can tell a lot about a gym by its dumbell section. There are no dumbbells…. they’re either stolen, across the entire gym (to have been never returned) or there missing pairs. I have come at 4-5am and have had more difficulty with the dumbbells than I’ve had at the garden city location during peak rush hour. The gym can be empty.. but the dumb bell section will still be a mess and just annoying. It will totally take you out of your workout focus.. and it will usually disrupt your workout timing, schedule, etc. Same with the cables.

The free weight/machine section is dangerous. It looks like a 2 year olds play room the way plates are scattered literally everywhere. The machines are not often.. but always and consistently broken. always. while they boast more machines than other locations.. they probably actually have the same amount or less because most are out of commission.. or sketchy. Beware signing a health waiver here… your more likely a machine malfunction on you here opposed to elsewhere.

Locker rooms… not the dirtiest ever. I’ll give it that. Always out of papertowels, hand dryers usually always broken. They have 2 saunas that are usually warm and not hot. that’s just the nature of the higher volume. During the weekdays… don’t even bother with the sauna. They advertise a thermal sauna which has been broken forever. pools and hot tubs are okay.. water is cloudy depending on when you go.

I don’t know whether they need less front desk.. but they absolutely need more people for maintainence and doing walk arounds. I have been to gyms where the front end will provide a presence and set the tone and culture for the gym. There is PLENTY to do on the floor. Make a re-racking policy and enforce it. The girls at the front will usually always have their faces stuffed in their phones. The guys are more vocal and will occasionally say “hey” or “take care”. If they were picking up weights it wouldn’t matter… but you’re not picking up weights… annnd you can’t even greet anyone (not always but mostly). We check in ourselves… and if anything membership related is needed your referred to sales… so what are they doing all day. Hire more support staff for gym upkeep.

all in all.. you don’t gotta fix nothing.. just charge less. But there’s no way this gym should be the same cost as the other LA fitnesses across queens and long island. Enforce a re-racking policy, fix the machine, hire more maintenance or have the front end get involved with picking things up because they’re on their phones 9...

You would think that with how busy the gym is at all hours of the day, they would actually invest the money into new machines/upkeep/staff or address major issues that they’ve been ignoring for years but they seem more focused in making useless things like rezen (the prices for this are crazy, I literally have barely seen anyone in there. I’m convinced that everyone who mentions it in their reviews are actually staff writing fake reviews) and CS4 (there’s literally only 2-3 classes there a day, why is that room so stacked with new machines and dumbbells that barely anyone uses). Weights and dumbbells are everywhere especially at night. I see staff going around reorganizing them during the day but never at night. I’m guessing they haven’t hired staff for that shift. I wouldn’t be surprised, the gym is huge but you usually only see one staff going around doing clean up most of the time. All their machines are from years ago, so if you want to try out any “novelty” machines (like a hip thrust machine which you see in a lot of other gyms these days) you won’t find it here. With how big the space is, you would think they would buy some of the newer machines but nope. It also confuses me how they only have one of a popular machine but ten of an unpopular one. Like the fact that they only have one hyperextension bench is crazy, there’s always a line of people waiting to use it. All of the cable machines constantly have issues and you have to bring your own cable attachments and snap hooks because half of them don’t have snap hooks and can’t be used or the attachments are permanently hooked to a specific machine (and you typically have to wait to use it). Also, the fact that they close at 8PM on the weekends is genuinely annoying af. This is something I also really don’t understand since it’s not like the gym is dead by that time. Like there’s a mass migration to the exit as soon as 8PM hits so why do they close so early on the weekends? Even the smaller private gyms in the area close at 9PM-10PM. Towel service really doesn’t matter to me but I find it really interesting that they advertise it when I haven’t seen it available one time since I started coming here. They also replaced the traditional paper towel + disinfectant for the wipes but if you go at night, half the time they’re empty because staff can’t keep us with the rate that gym goers use them up. Honestly, I understand that they have limitations with what they can do regarding the weights being everywhere (tbh the ppl who used them should be putting them back) since there’s comparatively so few workers but I don’t get why they don’t just hire more staff? Compared to the amount of people that come to this gym, there’s a lack of staff, the plates are cracked, dumbbells everywhere, weight machines old, and cardio machines constantly broken. The only things that don’t seem to have the same issues are rezen, pilates, and cs4. So basically only the services you have to pay extra for are functioning at good level. Tells you a lot about who they care about and where their...
