KISKEYA KITCHEN — Restaurant in New York

First time eating here. My boyfriend really wanted to go because he’s been before and raved about the food. Unfortunelty my experience wasn’t the same as his previous one. The decor and ambiance was very nice. We dined in because take out was unavailable for some reason. We sat ourselves and the food was ready pretty quickly. I ordered oxtail and they weren’t to my liking but to be fair I’ve only ever had Jamaican oxtails. The rice was ok but the rice and oxtails were served separately on two large plates which made eating awkward. My boyfriend ordered pepper steak and it was good. Overall at this point I was content with everything. Although I wasn’t really feeling my oxtails I didn’t hate them. About 5 minutes into eating my son finds a very long piece of black hair under his fries and I found another under his chicken. Needless to say I made him stop eating immediately. I have a very weak stomach so I automatically lost my appetite and felt very nauseous. I returned my sons and my plate to the kitchen as my boyfriend, unfazed by all of this, continued to devour his food. The waitress apologized and gave a new plate and freshly made food. I obviously checked to make sure there was no hair. I personally wouldn’t have eaten anything else (and didn’t) but my son didn’t care and ate the new dish. When we got the bill it included the plate that was remade. I feel as though when things like this happen the restaurant should take the fee away or discount the total bill to reflect they feel bad about what happened. But not every restaurant can afford to do that so it is what it is. Based on the hair in the food and not being discounted, I personally won’t go back. I’m still felling queasy and wont be able to eat again until later...

This place has a cheap lunch special, which is why brought me in at first. They have a huge bar, Togo counter and tables. There is a “grassy” feel to the decor but I wanted more. It looks and smells clean. We plan on going back to the bar for appetizers and drinks.

The lunch special portion was a full plate. There are lots of different options with varying prices which I love. It was pretty decent though I wanna try more and maybe some speciality items from the menu as well. I had pepper steak and rice and beans. My boyfriend had roast chicken with rice and beans. We got a well done order of yucca fries and that hit the spot. The hot sauce we were given sucked!! Should have asked for something else but they were nice enough to let us eat at the counter.

3 stars for food. It was pretty basic but decent. And another star for service. The owner was there, he said hello and seemed involved which I think is important. All the girls behind the count we were very polite and super helpful. They know what they are doing !!

**The lunch special...

The food was 4 stars but I dropped a star because of how badly delivery orders are managed on their website. They use DoorDash for deliveries, so use the DoorDash app if you need food delivered. It's also important to note that the website never tells you that they use DoorDash. Ordering delivery from their website is a poor experience, as their address form is glitchy and will mess up your address multiple times. Then they have a DoorDash driver pick up your food and bring it to you... if your address is somehow correct after the website butchers it. Our delivery driver was stuck in another neighborhood because the website got the address wrong after I kept correcting it manually. We only found out that they use DoorDash because he asked us to fix the address in the app, which we couldn't do, because we used the website and were unaware of DoorDash's involvement. Other than that, the food was great. The last time I ate here was over 10 years ago and the restaurant has drastically improved since...
