The Wood Carte — Local services in Town of Queensbury

The staff was very helpful and the furniture looked great and was finished just the way we' asked. It's when we got it home that the problems began. The door on the TV stand broke...revealing old plastic clasps that held the panel in. It should have at least been glued - the door was not one piece, but two. There are gouges in the drawers of the end table revealing that the builders used less than the best pieces for the drawer bottoms. Thirdly, although the finish is beautiful, the wood is very soft - a fingernail can put a deep scratch into the table top. Not good for something that is supposed to stand up to everyday usage. We dropped a coaster on the table top that had stuck to a glass due to moisture, and it put a deep gouge into the table top. Pine is too soft to be used for furniture and we'd hoped the protective finishing we'd paid for would add hardness to it, but it obviously did not. Finally, nail holes that had been puttied and finished are now beginning to show depressions in the wood. Overall-the furniture looks good, but I'm afraid it will not be durable. This is disappointing and because of the durability issue we will probably not buy furniture from the Wood...

I used to love this place and probably have spent over $5k for different items. We recently purchased a small end table and shelf unit to see how they would work in our house. We did not like the fit and returned them the following day - only to be told there is a 20% "restocking fee" for returned items. I guess I understand that for large items, but not for these two small items. They did give us a full store credit, but after we use that, I am done shopping there.

My response to the owner’s response: I certainly understand why you have the policy and that you have to protect yourself if items are returned with any kind of damage. What I requested was an exception to the policy given how much business I have done with you and the fact that the items I returned were two small pieces that were returned within 24 hours with no damage at all. In my business I work with customers all day long and my good customers sometimes receive exceptions and special treatment. We recently treated ourselves to an Amish bedroom set from the Woode Carte. Prior to purchasing, we had shopped around from Albany up to Queensbury. While we saw some very nice Amish furniture, nothing could compare to what we saw at this store. I cannot say enough about the quality of the product and also the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. It took about 8 weeks for our set to be built. Once the furniture was picked up, they set it up in their warehouse and we were asked to come in and inspect it. We then had The Woode Carte deliver it for us, and it was well worth the delivery cost. Each piece was carefully wrapped in blankets and plastic, and they were very efficient and careful about bringing it upstairs and setting it up. This is a store where the small details are important.
