Where should I start? Excellent. Contemporary restaurant with german touch. Far from the Lederhosen-Nutcracker-Kitsch charme one could be afraid of to see, very clean, nice, quiet and relaxing restaurant with a bar in the middle. Just one large TV-screen at the bar area. The kitchen: we went there the 2nd time today, first was 2nd day after opening, today was Christmas Eve. The food is unique, almost everything is home made. The red cabbage with duck lard, and spices, cooked to the point, the Wiener Schnitzel is a must if you look for excellent AND authentic food. My wife last time had the sauerbraten, what was also extraordinarily, and she makes Sauerbraten herself in her cafe once per year, she knows what a good Sauerbraten has to be, and she was simply excited. The graved lachs: undescribable, you HAVE to try. I make this my own at home, and am proud to say, it is better than anywhere else. Cannot say that any more: the salmon is soft, it melts on the tongue, literally. It is made with bete, what gives it a minimal purple color, and a very soft, mildly-hot aftertaste. Might be you can some that good somewhere else: certainly you cannot get some graved lachs somewhere better.

And: we had goose today, a staple for German Christmas, again with the already described red cabbage, and dumplings. The goose was excellent, alone the gravy... And the dumplings precisely on the point, tasty, great. Christian, please make at least the dumplings a regular on the menue...

My son today had a salad. A salad you say, what can be special with a salad. Wait: the bread crumbles were home made, cooked with butter, to perfection, still warm, and the bacon crumbles were still hot: both obviously freshly made! Never had that before. Than the steak: Simply perfect. From the choice of the mear, far from watery it is a solid, perfect cut, cooked on charcoal to -sorry for the repetition- perfection, from the first to the last bit undescribable, you MUST try. It came with herb butter, the steak of course did not need it, so we could try and share it on the prezl bread that came at the side: of course home made, and exellent, cannot be done better.

Summary: the team mad it possible to serve perfect home made perfect food, with German spirit adjusted to contemporary taste and...

My husband and I had a truly spectacular dinner here last week. It was obvious from the minute I walked in that a lot of detail had been paid to every aspect of the experience. The environment is warm, inviting, and spacious, with traditional German music playing in the background.

Our waitress Rayna was excellent; very friendly, helpful with answering questions, and present any time we needed something. Highly recommend requesting her if you visit.

Now, for the food. Absolutely delicious! Pretzels are brought out at the beginning, accompanied by a honey butter spread; we opted to also add a side of beer cheese. The pretzels were delicious and everything I had hoped for, with a nice crust on the outside and warm and pillowy on the inside. I loved the butter, and hubby was thrilled with the beer cheese. We ordered potato pancakes for an appetizer as well. They were good and cooked well, but I would be curious to try another item next time.

Our entrees that we selected were awesome! Each plate was filled with an abundance of delicious food. The chicken schnitzel was exactly as I like it, crispy and pounded very thin, and well seasoned. I always get a side of bearnaise sauce to dip it in, and that was perfect, too! Hubby ordered the strip steak, which I had a few bites of, and this was excellent too; I would recommend for sure. We ordered bacon wrapped green beans, spaetzle, and potatoes for our sides. The potatoes were so good! I will be ordering those every single time. He enjoyed the green beans, and I liked the spaetzle.

I had no room left but wanted to try a dessert. I selected the rice pudding (no raisins!) and loved it. Planning to leave room next time for the apple strudel.

Altogether, this is a great local option for us when we are going out to eat (not a regular thing for us, but a few times a month, it's nice to go out). We love supporting private restaurants with great food at decent prices and this one covers all of that and more. Highly recommend. It is the only option I know of with authentic and well-made German food...

From 9/26/2024 Located on the former site of The Outback restaurant, Spargel on Nine serves authentic German food, not the kind comically envisioned by what Americans think German food is. No lederhosen, no um-pah-pah music, no chicken dance here. The sans serif font on the sign was an indication that this would be food taken seriously. “A Pure German Restaurant” this certainly was. (Spargel refers to white asparagus, a bit of an obsession for Germans)

I’m no foodie, but I got a bit excited here. I ordered what was probably their signature beer, Vitus. I'm usually not a big fan of wheat beers, but this did not disappoint. All their beer comes from the worlds oldest brewery, Weihenstephan, founded in 1040. Next was a pretzel treat, which came with butter and spicy honey. Very simple, it was surprisingly good. Don't expect any ordinary salad; this one was made up of any number of fermented vegetables. If you love sauerkraut, red cabbage, etc. you will go gaga for this. For my main course, I went with the standard sauerbraten, which came with red cabbage and potato dumpling. It is prepared with Angus beef, and red cabbage made from scratch. Meat was tender as could be. Delicious. My wife had the beef brisket, served in a horseradish sauce, butter potatoes, and lingonberries (The salad came with this entree). Again, delicious.

Dessert was the only thing sub-par, but only in a minor way. The Creme Brûlée was tasty but a bit runny.

Owner/Chef Christian Rath and wife Courtney made the rounds with some of the patrons to make sure all was well. Service was suitably prompt, server was knowledgeable and friendly. Pricing was in line with the quality of the meal. A great article detailing Spargel on Nine and its owner can be found in The Glens...

First time here for restaurant week, and they did not disappoint!!!! We made reservations and were seated immediately. The restaurant was not super busy but had a few full tables and bar patrons. The lighting and music make the experience very pleasant. The waitstaff were very professional and kind! THE FOOD OH MY GOODNESS!? They start you out with pretzel sticks and whipped butter drizzled with hot honey which was delicious! We also ordered the fried brie with ligonberry jam which was very good but could have been a little more melted and served with more crostini’s. We both started out with soups, and got the Hungarian gulash soup which was loaded with tender beef chunks and seasoned perfectly…I got the Spargel soup whoch is asparagus cream and it was very tasty and creamy. For our main courses we ordered the Pork Schnitzel covered in their beer sauce with mushrooms, we chose potato pancakes and bacon wrapped green beans… it was AMAZING! I ordered the Erlanger Sauerbraten which is a marinated beef in a tasty sweet and sour demiglaze and we chose red cabbage and spaetzel and WOW it did not disappoint. We barely had room for dessert but managed to power through, we got the Chocolate cherry torte cake and the apple strudel which were phenomenal. I highly recommend this place and cannot wait to go back to try more of their impressive menu!
