Northern Thrift — Local services in Town of Union

If you have shopped at Northern Thrift since the store opened, I have likely assisted you as I have been a cashier from when the store first opened up until today. Do not give your business to this company, the building has been infected with black mold since before the store has opened, and I’ve personally seen products picked up from the black mold and put back on the shelf. The upper management at this location, Jade, and Brittany, have frequently bullied the cashiers to the point where we struggled to even have enough staff to keep the store open. I have dedicated a lot of time into this store, and was told things by upper management such as “I don’t care if the guy I’m hiring is a r@p1st as long as he works hard”, and “cashiers and managers are replaceable”. Not even to mention the fact that we get everything from donations and sell it at high prices, and throw out what doesn’t sell weekly. I would highly recommend shopping at any other thrift store in the area.

The store manager tried to get us to clean the black mold without the proper ppe, and all of the cashiers refused. They ended up getting masks, gloves, and bleach at Home Depot and had production take care of the mold, and they didn’t even take care of it properly, it’s still growing back, and the store is poorly ventilated, and always hot, as well as water leaking onto the store floor from the walls creates a perfect environment for it to grow. The person who painted the store came in and shopped, and told us it was bad when he was painting. Large selection but a lot of wildly overpriced items and sadly I didn’t find much I even wanted. I found the kids section in particular left a lot to be desired… didn’t find many quality items. I’ve had much better luck finding gems at other thrift stores in the area. The organization could be better, ie more clearly labeled and sorted by size and type. It was a bit of a guessing game trying to figure out what sizes I was looking at. As an aside, the counter height is annoyingly, excessively high (I can’t even imagine what it would be like for someone wheelchair bound). Staff stood around while I waited forever to be checked out which was also a little off-putting. I will return to give it another chance at some point, however, as there’s certainly potential.

Edited to add: been here numerous times since my initial review. Prices continue to be all over the place. Found two identical pairs of pants priced drastically different; one was almost double the price of the other. Likewise, two identical toys but one in significantly worse condition should not be priced the same. $18 for a used, stained, casual (not even remotely fancy) toddler dress just because its Gap brand is CRAZY. And why is that on the “nice” rack?? $10 for a massive bag full of Lovevery toys is a steal — BUT that is appropriately priced for a thrift store. And whoever marks the sizes honestly shouldn’t — the handwriting is illegible half the time. Finally, please for the love of god stop writing on things...

It is not expensive it's trolls leaving negative reviews ignore them. ,any who i like the store and they do have outlets to test the products to c if they wrk,also if the haters r looking 4 a one dollar item there is other stores ,does it say its a dollar store no it sure dont.The older items they r genuine vintage n or antiques will b more money thats common sense. Most the thrift stores out here r not antiques they r fake,so to the new store owners keep up the good wrk they r hating because ur new they thought i was new to the area lil did they know im a old soul that was here before them thats the old philly sale store this building has been here 4 ever i love the store u have there,here is some decorations i bought not expensive these halloween decorations were under 2dollars do u know how costly halloween things are i had to buy these i also am gothic and love halloween, the black caped grim reeper is motion sensory eyes light up and he moves by shaking and says let me out baha he definitely works just fine lol,so you know in a lot of states in the usa black mold is not even illegal,and let's not get into what r own usa president was convicted of just saying I seen the review of a past employer so am updating my comment,I go here about twice a month never no problem here any...
