Original review: We had Mike out today because our new furnace wasn't working properly in conjunction with our wood burning furnace outside. Turned out that when a previous HVAC tech replaced our dual zone board, they did not wire it correctly. Mike discovered the problem quickly and was able to fix it. Everything is now running smoothly.
Update: changing my review from five stars to two stars. The two stars are in recognition of the techs and scheduling staff that we worked with in the past year. They were all very professional, courteous and helpful. The reason for the decrease in stars relates to my original post and our wood burning furnace. About a year ago we had them come out for the first time because our furnace wasn't working. We ended up purchasing a new furnace which they installed. Our old furnace had a summer winter switch on the side that when toggled would either turn on or off the connection with our wood burning furnace. We only use the wood burning furnace in the winter, hence the winter summer switch. The new furnace they installed did not have a switch. We asked about it and they said it would not need a switch, that the system would somehow know what to do based on the thermostats I assume. We took them at their word but since it was middle of summer we had no cause to use the wood furnace. Then there was the issue mentioned in my original post. We thought fixing the zone board would do the trick but it did not. Over the course of 6 months or so, I lost count of how many times we had Davison come out for various furnace related issues. At one point I asked the scheduler if she was sending out any of the people who had previously been here and she told me that none of them worked for the company anymore. That set off a few red flags but oh well. I even specifically would ask when calling them if they could send their tech with the most experience related to wood burning furnaces. Supposedly they did that, but that tech whose name I don't recall offhand basically said he has very limited knowledge of them but that he is in fact the most knowledgeable at the company. We ended up bringing in our own wood burning furnace expert who after just a few minutes of looking at the indoor furnace told us exactly the part that we needed to make it function properly. We had a tech come out again, I gave them the information about the part and included the schematic that Wood burning furnace expert gave us to show exactly how it needed to be installed. It was at that time that the tech basically told us that his supervisors said they cannot and will not install said part. This was the first instance in all the months we've had them coming out where they flat out said they can't and won't do it. All along they made it seem like it was no problem and they would get it working. If it was beyond their scope, they should have made that very clear when we first had the furnace installed. I spoke to our wood burning furnace expert again who doesn't typically work on indoor furnaces and asked if there was any way he would possibly consider installing the switch for us. He agreed that he would do it. The Davison tech had been working with us on a quote for a new AC unit which we were considering. I asked them if they would be willing to deduct the cost of having the furnace part installed by our other person from the cost of the new AC unit and also if they would agree that having this other person work on the furnace would not void its warranty. The quote to install the part was literally like $200 and the AC unit price with install was over $6000. The tech said he would get back to me and I have never heard from anyone at Davison again. I feel like we gave them so many opportunities to make the situation right and we were extremely patient. My apologies for the length of this post, but I feel like the detail is important. Highly recommend to anyone who has a wood burning furnace set up at their home to make sure they choose a company that has expertise...
Read moreI am beyond disappointed with the unprofessional and misleading service I received from Davison Plumbing & Drains. I only contacted them because they were prominently featured as a sponsored ad on Google, which claimed they service Detroit. When I called, I specifically asked if they serviced Detroit (not just Metro Detroit). After putting me on hold to “check,” the representative confirmed that they do indeed cover Detroit. I was relieved and went ahead with scheduling a same-day appointment, even agreeing to a service contract that was promised to save me money. I paid for the contract on the spot and received email confirmation with receipts and the contract details.
I was scheduled to have someone come out between 4 and 6 pm that same day, which seemed fair as I’d called right around 4 pm. However, less than 40 minutes later, I got a call informing me that they, in fact, do not service Detroit! This company wasted my time and left me hanging with a broken water heater due to misleading advertising and poor communication.
Now, I’m out of luck and waiting for a refund on a contract I never even got to use. Not only did they completely misrepresent their service area, but they also failed to follow through on the commitment made by their own staff. This experience has been a major letdown, and I wouldn’t recommend Davison Plumbing & Drains to anyone in Detroit. If you’re looking for reliable service,...
Read moreIf you need a reliable company to do your HVAC work call this company immediately. My furnace went out the other day. I called their number and they had a technician (Alex) out within 45 minutes. He took a thorough look at the furnace because there was no air blowing out of it, but it was running. He gave me a couple of options but because my furnace was so old, I opted to go with a new furnace. Originally, he said it wouldn’t be until the Tuesday so four or five days later. which we were totally fine with. He was also very knowledgeable and professional. However, the next day, a girl from the office called, said that she could get us in the very next day because they didn’t want us to go without heat for four days. The day of the installation there were two guys Steven and I cannot remember the other guys name but they were professional. They were efficient. They were quick and they left our basement area cleaner than when they found it. They also re-taped most of the ductwork down there and even did a couple of extra things above and beyond. So so grateful for this entire company and everyone who I worked with throughout this...
