Wow, blown away by this local Latin food shop. Their extensive menu has breakfast specials, various tacos, Chimichangas, and Salvadorian bites and dinners. I wanted a couple of snacks so I went for several Pupusas and Corn Tamales. Everyone agreed that the portions for that price were already a winner. The flavours and textures of the Pupusas won my heart. At first, I was apprehensive that the inside goods (cheese, spinach, Ch, jalapeno peppers) would be a bit dry or bland. Nope, completely the opposite. The Chicken was filling, flavorful, and juicy. I think they must use a broth with some vegetables, like carrots, peppers, tomatoes to prep the ch, which was an amazing choice. The soft corn dough preserved the juiciness and each bite was delicious as you dipped into the slightly tangy tomato sauce (almost like a very mild salsa but not chunky at all) on the side. I'm not a big cilantro fan so the spicy cabbage slaw didn't matter to me. The Corn Tamales was just as special, that was just steamed instead of pan-fried.
I really admire how each entree was unique and delish in their own way. Everything complemented each other, the dough and meat portions were perfect, and I was actually full from trying all of the items. Saved some for the next day and they were still just as good, not dry or anything!
Will definitely be back to try the authentic Salvadorian dinners next time. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Thanks for the great...
Read moreI had a bad experience here. The customer service has really plummeted. They will nickle and dime you, and be rude about it. I politely asked for some chips while I waited for my takeout. No salsa, just some chips. The young "customer service" woman tried to charge me $4. For some chips while I wait for my food. The food came (5 papusas) and I politely asked for two small spicy salsa packets because the traditional tomato sauce that comes with papusas doesn't have any chili in it and I like a little spice. She tried to charge me $1.66 as I was getting ready to leave. I questioned her as to when it became restaurant policy to charge people for two small salsa packets when they ordered a considerable amount of food and she gave me attitude. On top of that, when I got home 3 papusas were very good, but two of them were stuffed with chalky, dried-out beans. Other than the two papusas with chalky, dried-out beans in them, the food was good. I'm no expert, but you know when the beans you're putting into papusas are chalky and dried-out. The fact that they did it anyway, coupled with the nickle and dimming, and attitude from the young "customer service" woman, earned El Guanaco this 2-star review. I hope that they can right the ship, because I've had good experiences and good food here in the past. I will probably give them one more chance before abandoning the...
Read moreFood is good however the prices are a mess. I went here two weeks ago and the menu said $3.99 for a side of cheese and I got charged $5.99. I asked about it and got told "that has been the price for a long time"
The next week I came in and saw that the menu had it for $3.99 and the website said the same. Waitress said "our prices are always changing and it says so on our menus" I ended up leaving and called the owner and he said sorry, sometimes they get it wrong and he said he would make it up to me.
I go in yesterday. I order my food (two tacos for $3.00 a piece as said on the printed menu (website states $2.89) When I get the bill they rang up as $3.59 a piece. I did not "get taken care of" which wasn't an issue, but the deceiving prices is a huge issue.
I can understand it can be hard to keep a menu updated when you have to have them printed up, but come on. Website states one price and location has listed prices as something else and then you are charged a lot more. Worst of all when you mention it to the staff they treat you like your dumb in that "our prices can change at any time"
I rather not support a business who functions this way. I've brought in a lot of business with word of mouth and I'm now informing them of...
