Food City — Local services in Tucson

Incompetent and rude bakery. I ordered a cake to for pick up at 7:30 AM. While on the phone they kept butchering my phone number, but I assumed they had it correct when it was finally read back to me correctly. By some stroke of luck I had forgotten to pick it up and called to let them know I was going to be late and on my way at 8:15 AM. The person I spoke in the bakery kept replying "I just got in at 8. It won't be ready by 11."

That's great, I think, I am calling about a cake I ordered for 7 AM. I tried to clarify it and that was the only response I got except for the added exclamation of "I know" and "I just told you." My thought process went from "she thinks I am ordering a cake now" to "she just got in and doesn't know where my cake is" to "this woman is making her being late MY problem."

I had to ask for a manager to figure out that they had tried to call me yesterday (via whatever phone number was actually written down) about it being delayed but it would definitely be ready by 10 AM. Which was fine I was late picking it up! I went to pick it up and apologize, despite none of the lack of basic communication being my fault, but the baker was so cold and dismissive to me.

Whatever, I think. I get it and leave. It turns out that it wasn't even the right cake!

Really disappointed with the deli here now. A year ago (and before that even) they had really good workers who were nice, spoke English, and didn't skimp while making your food. Now the women are all bitchy, refuse to speak English, and give you half portions if you're white compared to what they give Latinos. I watched a Latino guy get a HUGE burrito with tons of asada right before me, and mine was half the size with 1/3rd the meat directly after because I'm white. I know enough Spanish to order food, but not enough to argue about portion size. These women are perpetuating racism because what do you think the white folks are going to tell their friends about this store once they get home? Also, they only have 1 salsa now (salsa verde) which does NOT go with beef, and now they refused to put queso cotija on, only some whack shredded cheese that has no place in Mexican food unless its melted. And the tacos are so small now they're literally 2 bites each. Half the size of 1 year ago. This store need to get its shit together, have salsa roja like they always used to, put queso cotija on if requested, know enough English to at least sell their products, and stop discriminating against people who...

The thing is I look for at food stores are cleanliness good service and cheap food that's fresh. I found these bountifully . I posted a photo their bathroom because it's an important barometer. If the public bathroom is not being cared of what else is not? The floor was clean nothing sticking to my shoes ugh!! No malodorous smells with plenty of hot water. Perfect. It was hard to navigate because I left my circular at home. What they had at the store was not the sales paper I received in the mail. After asking for a store copy one of the workers very courteous and helpful employee went out of his way to find one for me. Needless to say it enabled me to find sales I had been looking for. And great prices they were. This has been by far the best grocery I have ever been to! Five stars all the way I have been there often since and will continue to go. I failed to mention although I don't like Mexican food (don't sneer at me 😎 ) they have a huge selection of item for that specificity. Go, enjoy,...
