Do you like bland meat, soggy bread, and feeling full without being satisfied? Are you afraid of the world and all its possibilities? If so, give'em a shot!
I'd had them before when a friend brought me lunch and had hoped my disappointment was only due to the 20-minute drive before I ate it.
So I gave them a shot when I could eat the sandwich immediately and killed any desire to return.
The woman working the counter was friendly and helpful, but the older man working the register did a fine job of bringing balance to the positive vibes she brought to the visit.
All the sandwiches my group got were crammed full (usually a good thing!) of lifeless meat we collectively decided tasted like the color gray. The sauces were okay but not enough to save the meat, and the wet bread dropped the contents of the sandwich out the bottom on two of the sandwiches less than halfway through - mere minutes after paying.
No one loved the sides we got, but pictured is the potato salad that did an excellent job of reminding me that, in this economy, I don't need to go buy things I know how to make myself.
I've certainly had worse things in my life, but Tucson has plenty of places to get sandwiches that make me feel good about parting...

Let’s talk bacon… we always have our hickory smoked bacon (located in the meat case) we do also try to get pepper bacon made also, catch us on a good week when pork prices are good enough we will have garlic bacon. ( all located in the meat case) As to looking for pork belly, that is raw side pork that gets sliced and not cured into bacon. That is a special order. Now onto Pork bell aka Belly roll, that is a bacon we have turned into a cold cut which is located in the deli case. Please ask and we can point you in the right direction for the intel you are looking for. Thank you. As to selling us items… I would have truly enjoyed talking to you more about your BBQ sauce but you walked into our deli at lunch hour when I have a line down the sidewalk. I was busy, I looked at the bottle saw the ingredients and saw it was similar to ours. Yes I said no thank you because we sell our own. Everything in our business is made in house, the few things we don’t make are things people are 100% looking for and we know we can sell. I wish you luck and went about my busy lunch rush. Read moreThis is a true sausage shop as they make their own sausage in house according to authentic recipes. Following a trip to Germany I was on a German sausage kick. They have several varieties of German sausage which I purchased multiple times. All were good, especially on the grill.
One of my favorite ethnic dishes to cook is a Portuguese sweet pea stew, ervilhas guisadas, which I first had in a Portuguese restaurant in Fall River, MA. Recently I spent time in Portugal and got hooked on their food. I was asked to prepare a meal for the choir and staff of my church on Christmas Eve, so the forty or so people could eat between services. I made the Portuguese sweet pea stew, which includes linguica or Churico sausage. I purchased the linguica, as it is not as spicy as the Churico, at The Sausage Shop. I received many compliments on the dish and they all said the sausage made the dish. The linguica was as good as any I had in Portugal.
As I needed several pounds I placed my order about 10 days in advance. It was wrapped and waiting to or me the day I was to pick it up.
The staff are very...
