I was selling at the TVSM Saturday night and got charged for an extra space for small 4 foot table, a tub of children's clothing, and another tub of kids gift bags. I was packing up (9pm) because no one was buying and they still charged me for the space $28, she gave me a discount of $8, as if that made it right. Then she said she could charge me another space for parking my vehicle in back of the spot I was selling. She said you need to unload your vehicle.Go park it in the parking lot.And then when you're done you bring your vehicle back to load. Honestly that's how they treat the seller's who are responsible for bringing customers into there business. WITHOUT SELLERS THERE IS NO TANQUE VERDE SWAP MEET! It cost $36 for Saturday 11am - 11pm But buyers don't show up until after 5. Spend most of their money on food and drinks. So they are just looking and not buying and by 8-9 no more sales. So as a seller who "sold" not going back... you only have a couple of hours of sales compared to all the work preparing your items to sell, loading up into your vehicle, driving there, unloading your vehicle, loading your vehicle, driving home, unloading your vehicle and putting away your sale item. Is not worth it! $156 in sales minus the cost of goods $64 for two spaces $30 for food I have two...
Read moreSELLER BEWARE: AFTER SELLING HERE YESTERDAY WE SADLY LEARNED THAT THIS IS A NIGHT TIME FLEA MARKET ONLY. WE ARRIVED AT 11 A.M. ( WHICH WE THOUGHT WAS LATE) EXPECTING (HOPING) TO FIGHT A CROWD OF BUYERS, BUT IT WAS A COMPLETE GHOSTOWN. ONLY 2 VENDORS IN OUR ROW, LOCKED BUSINESSES EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK AND LESS THAN A HANDFULL OF CUSTOMERS. OVER THE NEXT 5 HOURS THIS CONTINUED..... YIKES! WE WANTED TO LEAVE BY 6 WITH PROFIT BUT THERE WASN'T NEARLY ENOUGH BUSINESS SO WE HAD TO STAY. STARTED TO THINK PEOPLE AROUND HERE ALREADY KNEW THE DEAL BECAUSE THERE WAS NOBODY THERE. I WALKED AROUND AND IN TALKING TO OTHER VENDORS WE LEARNED HARDLY ANYBODY (VENDORS OR CUSTOMERS) WILL COME OUT IN THE HEAT SO THE GOOD HOURS ARE REALLY 5-9 P.M. HOW DO THE OWNERS EXPECT YOU TO SELL IN THE DARK, WITH POORLY PROVIDED LIGHTING? THE SPOTS ARENT EXACTLY EVEN OR WELL MARKED EITHER, IT'S SORT OF A FREE FOR ALL. IT SHOULD BE $25 FOR SAT., $35 IS TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR THIS. IS THERE SOMETHING GOING ON OR IS IT A BAD TIME OF YEAR???? EXPECT TO PULL A 12 HOUR DAY HERE IF YOU GET HERE AT 11, OR JUST WAIT UNTIL 4 P.M. TO GET HERE BC THERES NO BUSINESS UNTIL LATE LATE LATE AT LEAST 5 PM.... NOT HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS BUT OPTIMISTIC AND WILL GIVE IT...
Read moreI come go to the Tanque Verde Swap Meet regularly, sometimes twice a week. I hesitate to even call it a swap meet, because nowadays it's roughly 70% cheap junk from China and new stuff. Lots of it fake band tees, Crocs charms, Funko Pops, Anime stuff you can get online.
I want the old swap meet, where it's like a massive garage sale. One problem is ownership is out of state. I don't think they understand the culture and socioeconomics here in Tucson. Management charges high rent for permanent stalls, so most people selling used stuff can't afford it. The selling fee for non-permanemt stalls has gone up too, discouraging many potential sellers.
I'd like to see a new swap meet emerge, that's free to the public with a $15 fee to sell. No permanent stalls, which increases overhead costs. An empty dirt lot would be fine. This should be seen as a service to the community, not just a business venture.
Only reason it's popping on Fri & Sat nights is because there's no alternative, and it's fun for kids. I'll find decent stuff once in a while, so it's not a 1...
