Update: We arranged to have Diane order by phone after I got off work at the museum. Expecting to pick up a yummy order of Chopstix's finest Aisian, I was rather confused when no one had a clue of our order. I called home, and she said she was still on hold! Since I had been waiting in line, they had taken at least two phone orders. WTF!?! The employee looked at his phone and said. " Sorry about that". That's about the time Diane said that she was hung up on a fterb22 minutes on hold. Way to go Chopstix. I walked out on making a $60 order. Despite the excellence of the food, this level of incompetence is not worthy of my custom.Get your business in order!
Diane and I have been eating here for years. We love the food. But we always get take out so eating in was a first for us. WOW! We ordered our regular fare, Mongolian Beef, Sesame Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and added treats like Shrimp Tempura and Egg Rolls. It's cold out, so we both got hot green tea. With our bellies warming with the very hot tea, the food came out in a rush and stove hot. The egg rolls were excellent, which is a change from our takeout fare because, by the time I get home, they are greasy. Not so now! The shrimp was tasty and crisp. As soon as we dove into one plate, anther was coming out. Everything was so good, hot and crispy. My favorite is the Mongolian Beef. I think it's the best in Tucson. The sauce is spicy, but not so that it burns now or later. Diane noticed that the batter coating on the chicken was very crisp, a feature that we never experienced with take-out. I think it's because the coating cools and becomes wet with condensation, softening it. The wait staff was very attentive and ready to fulfill our every need. At the end of our dinner, one of the cooks even came out to inquire about our satisfaction with the meal. This was a feast and certain to be offered as leftovers, which we will relish. This was an eye opener in that our take out habit was compromising the quality of our favorite Oriental food. It was a treat to enjoy the full nature of Chop Stixs' kitchen. If you do take out from here, make the effort to eat in once to see what you may be missing. Now I know, and it...
Read moreOkay, so I didn't even know Chopstix existed until I started working near a place up the street from this location. I am so happy that my co-worker ordered some one day because I have been hooked ever since August 2017. I question how I never tasted this great food, until then! No, I don't live under a rock!
Anyway, my personal favorites are: chicken lettuce wraps, egg drop soup with crispy noodles and the lo-mein.
The chicken lettuce wraps are so low in carbs that I become a bottomless pit, stuffing my face without any kind of guilt. The chicken is diced and perfectly seasoned and cooked. It has a mixture of minced onions, celery and some other stuff but not to fret, you can't even taste the original flavors of these items because your mouth is exploding with pure yumminess! It comes with a peanut based sauce (that I don't use because the flavor it is cooked with is enough for my taste buds). Aside for the chicken are four large romaine leaves that perfectly envelope the chicken mixture. It comes with some thin rice noodles also that appear to disintegrate in your mouth.
Next, the egg drop soup is just as good as Mei Mei's (my utmost favorite chinese food restaurant). The consistency of the soup is not too thick and definitely not too thin, it is perfect. Aside from the wispy beaten egg whites comes perfectly boiled slices of carrots and peas. I always add a bit of soy sauce for some more flavor. They automatically send the soup with those great accompanying wontop strips that I often put inside of my soup.
Finally, the lo-mein here is just like Mei Mei's. They are thicker and perfectly cooked, seasoned and served with your choice of protein. I often order chicken lo-mein. If I were to eat all of this for lunch, alone, I definitely would not eat again until the next day. It is definitely filling. Usually, I just order the large egg drop soup and an order of the chicken lettuce wraps all for about $12 and...
Read moreBeing a professional chef for the last 15 years, I've become very selective with the places I choose to eat out at. I stopped in real quick here on my lunch while taking a break from driving people around with my Uber car to get some lunch here this chopsticks place. Inside it doesn't appear that they allow sit in dining as the majority of the dining area is stacked with boxes of restaurant supplies and dishes. But I was offered to sit down however I didn't have time to sit and eat. It started off fine I made my order even though the girl at the front did not eat meat she gave me her best recommendation for a chicken dish. Then I stepped to the side and started looking and reading it all the signs and reminders and pictures on their walls behind her some time passes and she walks back to the kitchen and I began hearing her complain to the cooks that I was staring at her and they needed to hurry up with my order. I felt this was very rude very unprofessional and considering an echo through the entire restaurant which was empty I feel like she had absolutely zero care if she offended me whatsoever. Given that interaction put a bad taste in the mouth I'm all about the food. I ordered the crab puffs, what I actually should have been told was they are fried wonton leaves. There was what look to be some over fried cream maybe less than a teaspoon and nothing else it tasted bland and cheap. Try to put more of a bigger bitter taste in my mouth considering I paid $8. The general tso's chicken that I ordered does however have a good flavor fried properly cooked all the way I even see green onion whites and...
