The first time I went in, a few months ago, I noticed that it was a little smelly and that nobody wanted to have anything to do with me, including the staff. I figured it was just an "off day," which everyone is entitled to, so I gave them another shot recently.
My second trip was much worse. It smells really bad in there. Terrible BO mixed with odorous food that has been dropped and not cleaned for a long time mixed with the proud "I'm a smoker" stink that was wafting from a few different players; I can't even imagine how horrible the stench will be in their shop during warm months. The atmosphere was vulgar and nobody seemed to mind. Everyone was divided into little cliques that didn't seem inviting. I didn't necessarily need more dice, but I wanted to at least try to support the LGS and their community. I tried again to get someone to help me at the counter, but the employee was too busy playing games as well.
Additionally, when someone pointed out who the owner was, I couldn't believe the way he was treating his customers/friends. He was aggressive, combative and antagonistic in a place where he should be encouraging, if nothing else, to the people that are earning him a living.
I tried to give them a second chance, but they've fully earned my dislike. There are two other gaming stores in Tyler: the one south of town doesn't support the game I play, but the staff seemed friendly enough. The one on the east side of town seems a perfect fit for me and my gaming needs: family appropriate, friendly encounters with painting customers and employees, lots of miniwargaming and a massive selection of GW related fare. I would recommend trying those two first to see if they'll meet your needs.
Maybe I've just hit them on two bad days, but honestly, the second one was bad enough that I won't try them again for at least a couple of...
Read moreThis place is a must if you love board games or card games. The atmosphere is bright, happy, and cute. The employees are welcoming but don’t hover over you while you shop. They are very knowledgeable on everything in the store. They have this cute mystery wall of games at a discounted price with wrapping paper covering the outside and a description of the game that was handwritten by an employee (kind of like a mystery book in local bookstores). These are always fun for group dates or if you are having a friend gathering. When you first walk in there is a huge row of kawaii merchandise such as Pokémon mystery boxes and hand drawn stickers/art prints. They also offer red bean buns(my husbands favorite) and delicious candy. There are so many cute plushies that I have only seen sold there. For card game fans, they have literally every expansion ever for yugioh and magic. They carry new Pokémon card expansions, and Digimom packs. They also offer singles of Pokémon and Magic. They offer a lot of card game accessories such as card mats and a ton of dragonshield sleeves and card boxes. The prices I would say are average. It’s the same price you would find online, don’t go expecting any huge discounts. But the atmosphere and employees definitely make it a fun experience. This is definitely a more store setting than a hangout setting but board and bites next door is just a walk away if you want a fun place to play with your new games you...
Read moreThis is usually a pretty neat place to go into however, the last time that I went I left feeling pretty disappointed. I had gone looking for an escape room game and while they didn’t have exactly what I wanted, there was something that was pretty close to it. An older gentleman helped me find what I was looking for.
However another board game (Betrayal) caught my eye and it was marked $45 which was about $20 less than I had seen online the day before, so it was very exciting to me and I grabbed it immediately. However upon reaching the register I was informed that that game was marked incorrectly and that it would be $75, a $30 markup from the price marked on the box.
Instead of offering me the price that was marked or some kind of discount for their mistake, they wanted me to pay full price, so I left without it. I am disappointed in the situation and how...
