The Resplendent Crow — Local services in University City

I found The Resplendent Crow on Instagram, when I noticed several designers that I follow used the company's pieces in their work for clients. We had just moved into a new house, and because of supply issues related to covid-19, ordering new furniture was a nightmare. I decided to purchase a sideboard and china cabinet from Sucheta. Before they were delivered, I added a couple of guest room dressers to my order. The delivery experience was excellent, thanks to Al and his helper. They made an adjustment to the china cabinet door and apologized for bringing the wrong glass shelves (which were delivered via FedEx a short time later). I had chosen a mix of classic and chinoiserie-style pieces and requested a different paint color for every piece. The sideboard has original hardware that was re-plated in polished nickel, the china cabinet has vintage brass hardware that was not original to the piece, and the two dressers have modern hardware. All four pieces of furniture are gorgeous! So gorgeous, in fact, that when I saw a ready-to-ship chest on Sucheta's Instagram stories, I didn't hesitate to purchase it! When Al delivered the chest, he picked up a French Provincial dresser that I recently inherited and brought it back to me this past weekend; it looks absolutely amazing! If you like classic furniture with a modern touch, you will fall in love with pieces that you cannot find anywhere else. I like having a mix of old and new furniture in my home, and guests always compliment my lacquered pieces and want to know where I got them. I recommend Sucheta and The Resplendent Crow team...

I cannot say enough wonderful things about The Resplendent Crow and its owner Sucheta! Forever grateful to them and I am absolutely obsessed with my new dresser!

I had been wanting a custom piece from them for almost 3 years and finally found the right one at the right time and went for it. Every step of the way Sucheta kept me informed and helped me make decisions. When I was looking for a specific color that wasn't one from her regular colors, she had my color made. When I went back and forth about what hardware to get, she took photos to help me decide. When I had to deal with delivery requirements from my building, she helped me get the paperwork I needed in time. And she never seemed frustrated by my countless emails of questions, just helped me find answers.

Can some of the pieces be expensive? Yes, if you, like me, are used to buying Ikea rubbish. But the RC's pieces are forever furniture and no more expensive than any other quality furniture place. And they are a million times more unique and available in the most fabulous colors! (Which is so rare!! I can't tell you how hard it is to find colorful, quality furniture.)

Almir, the delivery guy, (who was also absolutely wonderful!) jokingly said he'll probably see me again sometime, bc so many people once they've had one furniture piece made, love it so much that they get another. And he's absolutely right! The dresser I got is so unique and so gorgeous, it makes some of my other furniture look lame haha. So, I'm already wanting to get another! I've bought a few pieces from Resplendent Crow and sold her a few pieces over the years, as I'm local. I'm also critical as my husband does this kind of refinishing/painting for a living (but is swamped and has no personal spray booth). The first piece I bought finished I wasn't too happy with, but I live with it. I'd love to have the imperfections touched up. The most recent pieces are much better. I will say that I take the brass hardware to be refinished myself as it's not always great, and some of it seems painted. Also, the markup between buying these pieces and what they sell for is huge. This is a lucrative business, although I know a lot of prep work goes into some pieces but she's banking on the aesthetic.

Picking up at the warehouse is a bit chaotic, as none of the employees really speak English (luckily I speak Spanish!) Getting a hold of Sucheta can be tricky as she's very busy (I'm still waiting on a chair that wasn't ready). All that said, people love her work and I see why. I just wish my husband had such a killer spray booth and we could do it ourselves with Fine Paints of Europe paint, which I prefer...
