So we went here on the recommendation from my neice's friend who attends WashU. I was looking forward to this dinner. Let's get to the food: I ordered the yellow curry dish with Vermicelli noodles and chicken. It took forever to get!!! All of the others had their plates, eventually, but my sister and I (we both ordered the same), waited so long. By the time we got ours, the rest of our table was done eating. I couldn't even believe it. We had to remind the server that we still didn't get our dinners. Side note, my niece ordered a Pad Thai that was really tasty.
The yellow curry was just too spicy to eat. I usually chose it because it's typically mild, but this was overbearing. If it wasn't so spicy, it would have been really good. I told them that I couldn't even eat it, due to the heavy spice. They said they would fix it. Why don't they have the option of mild, medium and spicy? I assume the default is mild and it even said so. Most yellow curry I order is perfectly spiced (mild). I've never experienced a problem like this before. They took my plate and about a minute later, returned my plate and claimed to have added coconut milk to the curry, to dilute the spice. The plate didn't look any different. Plus, that seemed kind of gross to doctor up food that was already taken out to the dining area. I tasted it and honestly, I didn't notice a difference. Power of suggestion? Placebo effect? I told them it was still too hot. It would have been better at this point, just to get a refund and forget it. I hate sending food back, because who knows what they do to it? I would have preferred to have the curry sauce mild and separate, so I can decide how much I wanted on it. The yellow curry was drenching everything. So they again took it back and "fixed it." I received my vegetables rinsed and placed in a small container, a small container of noodles and a large contained of yellow, mild curry in another. Instead of placing them on a plate, it was placed in "To go" containers. What? I was still trying to having dinner and felt pressured to leave. In the meantime, they gave me a complimentary crab Rangoon, which I admit was delicious. They said "we can tell it was too spicy because your face is red, so this should help!" I was interested in eating up some of the food that they packaged and decided to open it up. It looked really unappetizing, honestly. The veggies looked dried and weathered. I hate to waste food, so I took it with me. Later, I tried to eat it again and found what looked like a bug in my food. I was done! Out in the garbage it went! I cannot recommend this place and will not return when I...
Read moreI'm visiting from out of town and was excited to have Thai food during my stay in STL. I only leave reviews if a place was exceptionally good or bad and unfortunately this is a bad review...My server was very sweet. The food wasn't great. I really love spicy food and particularly Thai food. I ordered the fried rice with chicken hot spice level and it was very wet and strangely cold in the middle but hot on the outside. The fried rice honestly had no flavor and was weirdly sweet and very little heat which I expected better for a Thai place in a major city. The chicken in my fried rice was in huge chunks and there were maybe 3 pieces and some of it was cold. Unfortunately I wasn't able to finish my meal because a roach crawled up on my table and onto the wall. I completely lost my appetite. I spoke to the waiter but they did not comp my meal or offer to make things right. There was an apology from the server which I really appreciated but at that point I was sick to my stomach and didn't want to stay any longer. I love dining at places that have a hole in the wall vibe but this was a hard pass. I would recommend checking out some of the other places Delmar loop...
Read moreI hate to put such a negative review for a restaurant that my family and I enjoy so much but tonight was unacceptable. I went tonight around 8 and not one single waitress or host acknowledged me standing by the hostess stand. I was looking over the menu and was the first person in line. 2 of the staff literally walked past me to serve the gentleman behind me. Granted I was on the phone, looking over a menu but once I put my phone down to get the staff attention, I still received no service. When I tried to get either ladies attention, they walked right past me wothout making any eye contact or asking if I had been served. However, both ladies asked the gentleman behind me if he had been helped. Again, normally I have a fairly decent experience (& excellent food) coming to Thai Country Cafe but tonight was such a disappointment. After waiting a few minutes, I just left & went to another restaurant. I and my family will not be coming to TCC anymore...
