The top floor of this H Mart is actually pretty nice — there's a cafeteria, a Paris Baguette, and some small shops for cosmetics and home goods. It’s a good spot to grab a bite or browse around casually.
However, the actual H Mart experience leaves a lot to be desired. Right at the entrance, you're required to check all your bags — even reusable shopping bags — which feels unnecessarily aggressive. The staff at bag check treated me more like a potential thief than a customer. I had a larger wallet (the long kind, not sure what it's called), and even that was questioned. I had to argue just to take it in with me, since clearly you can't steal anything in a wallet.
Once inside, the store layout is standard. The produce section near the entrance looked fresh and well-stocked. Seafood was also plentiful and appeared very fresh. The meat section had a solid selection, especially marinated cuts ready for Korean BBQ — definitely a plus.
That said, the snack section was smaller than I expected, especially compared to the ones in Chinatown. I was surprised at the limited variety. The prepared food section (like pre-made kimchi and sides) was practically empty when I went around noon — not sure if it was bad timing or just poor restocking.
Check-out was fast, but the line system was confusing. The worst part? After paying, you have to exit the store, walk back around to the bag check, and then — get this — squat on the floor to repack your groceries. No tables or counters provided. It felt disorganized and a bit humiliating.
Overall: decent grocery selection, but the experience is soured by unfriendly policies and poor customer service flow. I’d come again for specific items, but I won’t be...
Read moreI usually don't leave bad reviews for places...I just stop shopping there, move on, & tell ppl I know not to waste their $$ at a particular store. HMart is one of those stores. I give a place a few chances before I give up... So here we go:
I love HMart: the variety of food, drink, & the specialty items. I'll try anything, except anything that has visible tentacles & is looking at me. I just can't with those 2, but that's me. LOL!
The food court is also pretty good, even though it's small. Items that I wasn't sure what the ingredient was, I got a decent explanation and was never made to feel that I was annoying them. Probably rolled their eyes when I left, LOL, but I'm sure they get questions every now and then.
I dislike HMart: SPECIFICALLY the market staff. I have had employees stock shelves (moving boxes and ladders around) DIRECTLY in front of where I'm looking or trying to access. I've been rushed at the checkout lane; gotten the heavy (hurry up) sigh in lines where I was the only customer; I've had backs turned on me so they can go back to their phones; just COMPLETELY RUDE. Even teenagers at other markets aren't this rude, and the ppl at HMart are grown adults.
My shopping at this location is much less than before. I will make the trip to the Elkins Park location, which is slightly better (larger food court and more variety in the market.
Other reviewers have made similar comments regarding feeling like an "outsider," and it is 100% correct, unfortunately. So my $$ will be spent elsewhere. Very...
Read moreThey sold me rotten fish on 2 diffrent shopping experiences. Horrible customer service!!!! I purchased 8.49lbs of Red Mullet totalling $58.09. I return to the store less than 1hr after my purchase, I approached one of the cashier (Bong Suk Son). I explained that the fish I purchased is bad. She began to shout "Why fish bad". I said this is what I would like to know she took the bag of fish to the back area where I had ordered. She began to inspect the fish with an old man who actually took my order. Bong tried to tell me the fish is good without even smelling it. I said smell the fish please every single one has a rotten foul order. She walked back to the front without asking me to follow her, I followed her. She went to the cashier who originally rang my purchase (Connie). Bong complained in her language in which Connie must've told her how to refund me. This lady (Bong) snatched the reciept out of my hand. It took everything in me not to go off. She then threw down a pad and pen on the counter for me to write my information for the return. She then threw down the reciept, asked me to swipe my card, then handed me my reciept with attitude. I will NEVER support this business again. This is my 2nd experience buying rotten fish and recieving horrible customer service when I returned their bad fish. Not to mention my dad also purchased the same fish $43 worth also rotten. Pay attention thwy sell rotten fish without a care for the customers health. I will make a...
