Platoâs Closet Valparaiso is one of the best resale shops in the area. With several large high schools near by and Valparaiso University, they have new stock of quality brands every day. I was looking through their racks at their clothes, they have all the current styles and name brands. There are also so many items that are new with tags on. I love being able to go into their store and find the same jeans Hollister or 7 for All Mankind has for a quarter of the price. My daughter got all her back to school clothes and some for less than $150, which also included a brand new pair of Vans for $12!
They have a large guys section too. They carry all the popular brands guys are wearing with great prices. A huge reason to shop there is their guyâs shoes selection. They carry high end athletic shoes that are barely worn or new with tags and box. It is crazy to see $200-$300 Nikes or Adidas shoes for $50-$70.
I was more impressed with vintage items you can find that are now on trend like shoes, purses, jeans, etc. that always seem to back around. My daughter loves this one riveted belt I bought in 2000 and will steal it from me from time to time. She found one there for $8. Many brands have ways of dating their clothing by codes or how the label looks if you know what you are looking for. It was the exact belt I had, but in brown. I wanted to get a brown belt back in 2000 but the brand didnât have it in my size. They know what they are doing when in comes to buying and selling vintage clothing.
I follow them on social media because they post many of their newest items there. You can get the first look at a red Adidas sweatshirt your daughter wants online but you donât want to pay $65 for it or a unique skirt my daughter fell in love with. By following them on Instagram and Facebook, I learned that the owners give back to the community. I have seen them donate to local animal rescues, raise money and collect items for families that their apartments were burned, help a local man raise money to help with the medical bills from his cancer treatments, etc. It goes on and on. It is one thing a good local business owner and provide well-paying retail jobs with a bonus of a good work environment, but they go a step beyond that and help the community when it is in need.
If you are looking for on trend clothing, shoes, purses, makeup, hair tools, and much more for much less than you can find online or in stores, Platoâs Closet is the best place in Northwest Indiana. They have an incredible selection of items and gives back to the community. Itâs the best of both worlds.
As I post this, I notice that there are poor reviews regarding customer service. I find that odd. Every staff member has been very nice, helpful, and informative. Are there times that all the staff are busy? Yes, because it is a popular store. I have been in there and found 6 staff members working hard and doing their best to meet customerâs needs. They buy tub after tub of clothes every day plus they are sorting, tagging and hanging those same clothes. They are also rehanging clothes, letting people into dressing rooms, and ringing up customers. I have never been in there when the staff was not working hard or engaged with customers. I haven't seen anyone just sitting there on their phone. Their staff have even helped my daughter find something similar when a clothing item didn't fit well or help her find a matching top to go with a pair of pants or skirt.
I'm not sure if the individuals who are leaving negative reviews are Plato's Closets of Valparaiso's target audience and I am older than target demographic since I have a teenage daughter loves to shop there. I have had retail jobs when I was a teen. Transactions took significantly longer due to the lack of technology. I think I have a realistic view on retail and understand that the staff would have to work hard in that job because there is just...
Read moreAbout a week or so ago, I had purchased a few bikinis from the store. When I got home I tried them on and some did not fit properly. So, I went back to platos closet to return them. Although I wish the store is more specific about what is considered to be acessories(like the bikinis), they still accepted them back! The owner was really nice and decided to compromise with me since I did not know bikinis were considered accessories. She decided to be generous enough to give me store credit for my returns. I was very happy and appreciated it a lot! This is why I'm giving Platos Closet in Valparaiso 5 stars. I would also like to add that I go here about 2-3 times a month and every time I go the experience is great. I always find what I am looking for at reasonable prices. When i went last week to look for bikinis, as stated earlier, I found a lot of Victoria's Secret ones in my size. VS discontinued their bikini lines recently so I was pleased to find out the huge selection platos closet had of the brand. I was able to buy 8 VS bikinis for only 65$! That's a great deal considering that's how much just ONE bikini top is at the actual Victoria's...
Read moreWe went in with 20 items all purchased from the Buckle. A few pairs of BKEs, Silvers and Rock Revivals and some tops as well as a pair of $210 Oakley's. We ended up getting about $40 for about 8 of the items which did include the Rocks ($160 jeans). The Oakley's had to stay over night to be verified that they were actually Oakley's by the manager which I totally understand and we were told that they would be done first thing in the morning and we even asked if we should call before making the trip there which is about 20min drive and they said no that they will be done. So we showed up the next day about 20-30min after they were open and had to wait because the Manager "overlooked" them and priced the Oakley's from getting pictures over text message. They ended up only offering 30% of $30-40. It is extremely unprofessional for this to happen and the manager in my opinion has an "I don't really care" attitude towards their job. You're either committed to your job or just interested. So if you want to be given false facts and have your items priced through sending pictures over the phone then go ahead and sell your things to...
