My husband and I dined here a few weeks ago for the first time. When we entered the restaurant and were greeted, it seemed forced and not genuinely friendly. They also seemed to favor my husband, responding to him more and directing their comments toward him, so I felt a little judged. Aside from that, the service at our table wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great either. They also took a long while to refill my husband’s soda, walking past multiple times before finally getting his refill.
As far as the food, my husband and I ordered burgers and they were undoubtedly tasty. They were juicy and very flavorful and the buns were good too, especially the pretzel bun. However, when we ordered our burgers, they asked how we wanted them cooked; I chose well done and my husband, medium rare. My burger was well done but my husband’s was very, very rare. Fortunately, it wasn’t a huge deal for him and he said he liked the flavor and juiciness of the burger. The fries were okay and I did like the potential of the flavor of the garlic parmesan truffle fries (I believe they were called), although they’re definitely overpriced and needed just a hint of more flavor.
Lastly, I ordered a milkshake, without looking at the price. Mistakingly assuming it would be roughly $5 - $6 like most other restaurants (I always order a shake, no matter the restaurant, if they have them). When I received my milkshake, it was so thin and bland. It felt and tasted like I was drinking milk with a hint of vanilla and on top of that, it was BARELY cold. I told my husband and he took a taste and said the same thing. Then he proceeded to tell me that the shake was $8! You’re kidding me! But as always, I’m extremely timid and a nervous person with major social anxiety, so I said nothing. My husband said it was fine, the money wasn’t a big deal and it’s not like we’d ever order it again. It was absolutely the worst “milkshake” I have ever had in my life and I do not believe, under any circumstance, that $8 is a justified price for a regular sized glass of milkshake. I would eat there again, but I’d never purchase a shake again. Not only because it was poorly made but also the price. McDonald’s shakes are by far superior to theirs, and that’s...
Read moreWent there last night with my daughter. Started out fine. She ordered a cheeseburger, I ordered the street tacos and an order of guacamole. Got the guacamole first and it didn't taste like guacamole. Too much artificial like lime flavor so it was also kind of sour. Not how guacamole should be and not for their price. So when our food was brought to us, I politely asked the manager on duty/my waiter, Micah, if he could please take it back as it just wasn't my flavor. His response? Well I'm not taking that off your bill just because you didn't like it. I then further explained it did not taste like guacamole at all, it tasted too much like lime flavoring and I only took one small taste. He then walked off with it. Later when he brought the bill he said he took half off, but that was the most he could do. Really? I asked him how that is when the food did not taste right and I only had a small taste of it before sending it back. He told me how can he just take food back that I tasted and not charge for it?! Please note: both guacamole interactions with Micah above were met with attitude. Taking an item off a bill when it does not taste good is a standard practice at Just about any restaurant and is usually followed by an apology. I got neither. I got attitude and got stood over and looked down upon as he rudely told me he wouldn't take it off my bill. I felt confronted. I was made to feel like I was in the wrong and it was stupid of me to think my bad tasting guacamole shouldn't be paid for. Just a bad experience of bad customer service. I was planning to return in the beginning of our visit as there was a couple other menu items I planned to try, but Micah has personally assured I will not be returning. I don't know if he was having a bad night, assumed by seeing a single mother with her kid that I wouldn't tip well (I almost always tip over 20%), or maybe because my daughter is part black (because honestly nowadays who knows), but he was not...
Read moreAfter a excellent evening at the movies I decided to take my family to get their favorite fried pickles from the Burgerhaus in Valparaiso. Upon arrival the hostess promptly seats us and from there our visit went downhill fast. Two other parties that came in after us were promptly seated and greeted by their server. We on the other hand, had not even been acknowledged as guest by a server. We watched as other servers waited on tables around us but not acknowledging or going as far to say hello. My wife pointed out to me that nearly 10 minutes had passed without anyone coming over to speak to us. Within that time frame, the person who turns out to have been the general manager walked past and around our table three times. After the third time we got up to leave. As we were leaving the hostess asked what's matter as if she didn't know. We were seated directly across the way from the hostess stand. The Burgerhaus in Valparaiso is a small restaurant and you can see everything that is going on. I pointed out to the hostess that the parties that came in after us had drinks and menus in hand but we had nothing at our table. At that time, the hostess waves to the general manager to come over to speak with me. I pointed out to the general manager he had stopped to speak with guests seated around our table, and walked past three times without even saying hello. He then proceeds to offer me a gift card for my next visit. I asked him why would I want a gift card for another visit when I couldn't get service at this one. Both the general manager and hostess looked like deer in headlights upon the question. Not sure why no one at this restaurant wanted to serve my family. Our past experience at this location had been generally good. Always making sure to promptly pay our bill and leave a 20% or more tip for the wait staff. Needless to say, after this visit we will...
