I found the Frame Market on Groupon and got a Groupon deal $200 Towards Custom Framing for $39.00. I have an artwork by Matt Rinard, a New Orleans artist, that I have been meaning to frame. I already have a Matt Rinard framed (22" x 18.5" Triple Mat) by a gallery in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, many years ago, and I want to frame this 2nd piece exactly like the one from the gallery. I went to Michael's first to get a quote, and they quoted me around $150-200 (included the 60% off sale). The problems with Michaels is that they couldn't get the mats and frame that I wanted.
After having the unframed artwork for a few years, I found the Frame Market on Groupon, and decided to give them a try since their location is conveniently located in the town of Vienna. I walked in to find a small cozy little frame shop, and greeted by Kalvin, who is one of the owners of this Frame Market. He was very personable, friendly and knowledgeable.
The Frame Market is family owned - Support Small Business/Family Owned Business!! The Frame Market has a large selection of frames displayed, but they have additional ones at their other locations and at the warehouse. They offer different type of glass for the frame, and they also have a large selection of mats.
Kalvin knew exactly what I wanted when he saw the framed art from Vegas that I brought with me. He told me that he have the mats (Black mat with a Yellow edge) and the exact frame that I wanted (Black and Blue frame). He knew exactly what I was talking about, when I pointed out some of the features that I want in the mat and the frame.
He wrote up my order on his computer, and the total came to a few cents short of $600, with the $200 Groupon that I paid around $30, it came to $400. I was surprised by how expensive it is comparing to the less professional Michael's pricing. Since I have no concept on how much frame stores are charging, I am willing to pay the price to get exactly what I want.
Kalvin told me that he will e-mail me with updates on the production process, and that the framed art will be ready in 2 weeks. Two weeks passed, and I didn't hear from Kalvin, so I e-mailed him. He responded immediately and explained that they had to special order the mat and it just arrived. Another week or so later, I got a voice message that the frame is ready for pickup. A few days after that, Kalvin e-mailed and apologized that they used the wrong frame. Another week or so later, Kalvin e-mailed to let me know that it's ready for pick up. I requested photos, and Kalvin sent them. From the photos, they look exactly as how I wanted.
My experience with The Frame Market is pretty good. Mistakes do happen, and I am pleased that it was caught BEFORE I picked up the framed artwork.
When I went to pick up my framed art, there were a streak mark along all 4 sides of the frame and there was a dot that looked like a water drop on the mat. The woman working there was very unfriendly. She tried removing the marks with a cleaner, and the marks were still there. She didn't apologize at all and started wrapping the frame back up and repeatedly saying that it is Kalvin's work and get will fix it. I wasn't pleased with her unprofessional attitude. I emailed Kalvin immediately, and he was very apologetic and told me that he will take care of it. He ended up ordering new material for the frame and mats. When the frame was done, it was perfect!! Note: I am very picky, and Kalvin met my expectations.
It is really nice to work with Kalvin who is experience and knows his products, and he can frame the artwork exactly as I wanted. In addition, he made recommendations to ensure the end product is beautiful, and he is very responsive. I will definitely use the Frame Market again, but I will only work...
Read moreI recently moved to the area and my Co-worker told me about a cute little frame shop around the corner from my place, so I naturally had to drop in for a visit! The gentleman really took his time patiently helping me pick out the most beautiful combination for the art I had picked up while travelling to Italy last year. So glad I waited for this particular shop to finalize the framing! When I went to pick up my order, I fell in love with the artwork all over again: totally amazed by the fantastic combination and beautiful frames while being very reasonably priced!
I definitely highly recommend them and will be coming back with more...
Read moreFirst time going to The Frame Market and definitely won't be my last! They did a wonderful job on a large black-and-white print of mine. The woman there even recommended I get a black mat instead of a white mat, which I was skeptical of at first, but once I got the print back, my goodness the black mat with a black frame looked gorgeous.
Edit: Came back two years later to get 9 (yes, 9!) prints framed and I couldn't be happier. Val really helped me pick out some great mats and frames, and Kalvin did an awesome job putting everything together. Any print I get from now on will be getting framed at The...
