I just had a confusing, condescending, and rude experience and will not be returning. I had gone to this doctor the two previous years but after today's strange encounter I will never use them again. I was in for a routine contact lens exam with a major inquiry being that I wanted to switch from the brand recommend last year that was running me $75 a box. The doctor asked what brand and I said it didn't matter, I just needed a cheaper or generic brand that was less than $75. His response was that as far as he was aware all lenses cost the same and asked what brand I wanted. I began searching the website I have used prior and while doing that I was asking questions because over the past 10+ years I used a website that never held me to a brand specific prescription. I even said that maybe they weren't holding up to quality control standards but I had until last year when they were bought, been able to just pick a brand and similar curve/prescription so I was asking things to the effect of "isn't the curve of my eye the same measurement and just trying to understand how the prescription/brand worked, because prior this had not been an issue. At this point the doctor was becoming condescending and raising his voice and stating things to the effect of "if you want to order your lenses from China or Thailand I can't be responsible". Now I was becoming confused as to why he would say that and as to why he was beginning to yell at me and from here it just turned into an argument. I asked why he was yelling at me and got the "I won't be talked to this way" and up until that point I had not even raised my voice???? I did after this point in the conversation and all this guy kept repeating was that I was trying to get him to just give me a blank prescription but I NEVER SAID THAT OR INDICATED AS SUCH??? Now I did end up leaving with some un-pleasantries said on my end but that was after a very strange escalating angry doctor who clearly wasn't even listening to me. I “Googled” Eyecare Associates today to give a friend their address and phone number to make an appointment, as Dr. Manguikian has been my eye doctor for the past 6 years. I have referred many of my family and friends to Dr. Manguikian. I was very surprised to see the posting by Mr. Luper. I can’t speak to the rules/legalities of the optometric field and I find it hard to believe that the practice would not release records or withhold a prescription as I have gotten one every time after finishing my exam and it is on the receipt for services rendered. I can certainly give my recommendation of this practice. Dr. Manguikian has taken the time with me during my exams to check my eyes and help me make important contact lens decisions. Recently, I had an eye infection and I called and got in to see the doctor that same day. The service was so great they fit me in between patients to help accommodate my schedule too. I’ve purchased contacts, several pairs of eyeglasses and even sunglasses. Pam is amazing at visualizing frames and different lenses to best fit my face. I purchased a great pair of Silhouette frames and Pam suggested a different shape for the lenses and I’ve gotten so many compliments on my new glasses. Amy is a technical artist and took the time when I picked up my glasses to make sure the nose pads and the stems fit just perfectly behind my ears. They make casual conversation and are such a great team. It seems like everyone that walks in the door is excited to be there. I witnessed their warm and friendly manner as I sat in the lobby after having my eyes dilated. They are always accommodating to my busy work schedule, even when their office is packed.
